Even with a slim hope for a NIT bid , we can't lose to the MUTs. If we can get to the Championship game and put on a good show , I think a NIT birth is possible. That's all saying if we don't win the SBC!!!

My true gut feeling going into the conference tournament is that we will make the Final. I actually had a dream the other day that we made the NCAA Tournament and played Florida in the 1st round. (By the way, this was before reading the post on here with bracket experts picking the Sun Belt champ to play Florida in Round 1).

Definately looking forward to Monday night.

----So.Alabama has lost 4 in a row. (not good) .... so it means we might get a NIT bid if we make our finals....... but don't bet on it. The NIT has gotten better but they once picked wayyy tooo many eastern schools.

USA makes it regardless of their finish because they won the regular season....the NIT by rule has to take them.

I try really hard not to predict what JJ coached team will do. On paper, we should have no problem with MUTS tomorrow, however, on paper, we really should not have had that much problem today as we did. Any guesses as to why we were fouling in OT, up 7 points? So, we should win tomorrow, and frankly, as talented as we are, we should win the tourney. That being said, I think we will win tomorrow and then lose the championship game. If we play in the postseason it will be NCAA or nothing - the NIT will not invite us.

I was going to ask for a confirmation source on this, but decided to not be lazy and do it myself. So for anyone that is curious, it IS an actual part of the selection process to take a regular season champion that doesn't get the NCAA invite:

As a result of the new procedures, the regular-season champion from each of the 31 Division I conferences will now be guaranteed a postseason berth with the newly-created automatic qualifier to the NIT Postseason, in the event the team is not otherwise in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

I didn't dig too deep This is a February '06 release; so if anyone finds something more up-to-date and to the contrary, have at it!

Hank confirmed this during the broadcast as well.

With a win over the Muts and a good show in the Final, an NIT bid is possible, but not too likely. Kinda depends on what other schools do in their tournies. Other schools blowin' it in the first round could help us a lot. Our best bet is still winning it all and going to the Big Dance. Considering who's left, I like our chances. But if we lose, it's over.
