Comming from a run based offense, that tried to excute pass plays last year,

I was wondering if the blocking schemes/techniques will be any different for

Coach Dodge's spread and single back sets? Will the blocking assignements be

complicated or simple? We do not have alot of O-line experience comming back.

With OT 6-5 Jeremy Brown, and OT 6-3 Adam Venegas as the only SR's, and

OC 6-3 Chad Rose as the only JR, the remaining 10-OL guys are going to be

SO's. At least we will have these 10 in the new system for 2-3 more years.

Last years "Green Team" players, OT Peachy,C Drake, and OG Banks played

pretty good and gained some college game experience, so maybe the O-line

may be in better shape than I thought.

I would think the biggest step for everybody is learning to run an efficient no huddle offense. I'm not sure how effecive this is going to be in college with better trained athletes, espicially against an OU team... our defense might be on the field for most of the game if things don't fall into place quickly.

The blocking scheme should be fairly simple. You have the drop back pass protection, the RB draw and an occasional speed option.

The blocking style for pass plays is different then run plays. I may be wrong but this is how it worked when I played O-line in peewee, middle school, and for a short time in high school, generally on run plays you start in a three or four point stance (or whatever your school uses) and when the ball is snapped you shoot forward to your blocking assignment. On pass plays, you start in a crouching stance and when the ball is snapped you take a step back to create a pocket and you "pass block"(sometimes in pass plays you start down and then stand up and pass block). Then again this might be crazy talk i never played college or varsity HS FB. This explanation also comes from just watching football so I may be completely off and maybe someone can explain it in greater detail/correctly. I don't think we will have a huge problem with the o-line blocking style change because the players we have currently know how to "pass block" because we did OCCASIONALLY pass. They might need to work on it a little but we have a strong coaching staff to work on them. Plus I think the team as well as the fans wants to turn this team around so any problems they may have Im sure they'll put the work in to fix them.

The OLine will probably be pass blocking on most of it's plays from now on. It takes a very good athlete to pass block effectively since pass blocking puts a player back on his heels. Size, strength, & quickness are so much more important. We'll truly see how good the Oline is, this year.

I don't see the scheme changing too much since most teams use a combination of both man-on & zone blocking. The biggest change will be the increased pass blocking, IMO.

OT Josh Alexander, 6-3, 290 is scheduled to return. He sat out last year due to injury but is a lettrerman. He will be a JR this fall.

We will be extremely lucky if we EVER see Alexander return to the playing field.

As for our new O line play, if you go by SLC's line, the linemen will have very close stances next to one another and both running and pass plays are blocked the same way, out of an upright stance.

When I played Jr High and HS ball we used the same stance -keeps from letting the defense know what to expect - must work as we won district 7 years in a row - I only played 4 of those years in HS.

You mean you didn't use a redshirt?
