Does Dodge Want Riley Here?

--This has got the be the most instantaneous high jack ever... I have had a couple threads locked because of a comment I ( and others) said but they were not even close to this one.

--Dodge wants the best for his son --be it here or elsewhere. He will be not an NFL player (too small) so college is it. The kid may want to get away from his father ( normal for most teenage-kids) and just live his own life. I read nothing into the fact he may go elsewhere.... if he comes here it may be because no bigger programs really recruit him.

---Back to politics --- Iraq was a big mistake (only time we have invaded a country without being provoked by them) and no-- the Democrats don't have the answer either.... no one does .... Bush created this mess and someone will have to figure out some way to end it... probably not him ...although he did figure a way to stay out of Nam which Gore and Kerry did not do or decide to do... this has gone on longer than WWII did for us. My fear is the resulting government in Iraq will be much like Iran has ... a crazy Islamic republic and we will be worse off than before .... the people Saddam ( more of a Mafia-type thug than a Islamic nut) was killing for the most part were the Islamic crazies that tried to overthrow him (there was a reason, it was not just for fun) ... and yes he was a very bad brutal guy, unfortunately it may take that to control that mess of religious crazies... but it is not our job to rule every country... there are a lot of bad guys out there and we can't invade them all.

Now are we going to lock this???? It deserves it more than some others did... it is not even close to the topic..

Mac says he recruited Riley as a WR or DB . Also , according to sources in Austin , both Sherrod and Chiles are looking very good at the QB position this spring. McCoy has 3 more years also.

--McCoy is not an issue really ... he would have two years left when R.Dodge is a freshman. Only R.Dodge's second year could it matter and it wouldn't as long as McCoy was getting the job done. I would expect Dodge to be a non-QB player as long as they have a large passing game. He is too short unless he is still growing which is possible at his age.

and the fact that they will still be bringing in 4 and 5 star blue chippers at the QB position the next couple years, and probably 1 or 2 in the 08 class. Which is why I said, Dodge will never play QB at Texas. Which is fine. If he doesn't want to play QB at the college level, or just wants to "go to Texas where his dad played" more power to him! I cant fault him for that. I don't think he will see much playing time at any position. I dont think he is athletic enough to be a DB or WR in a full-time capacity at any major program, but thats just me. Either way, I wish him well and hope he far-exceeds expectations.

Back to the questions--

Does Coach Dodge have the passion for NT? Does a wild bear crap in the woods?

Man, I beleive this is a dumb question to be asking.

Hell yes, Coach Dodge has the passion for NT! Coach Dodge wanted this

job, even Riley stated this was the opportunity his dad wanted! Coach Dodge

views NT as a sleeping giant waiting to be awakened! Coach Dodge will build

this program into something special!

Did Coach Dodge want Riley to come to NT? Hell yes he did--but--he also

allowed his son to make his own choice of schools. The NT football scholarship

is still on the table for Riley if things change before next February's

signing date.

Is Riley too good for NT? Was Mean Joe Green too good for NT?

If Coach Dodge signs any 3, 4,or 5 star rated player next year, will this player

be too good for NT also? Coach Dodge will recruit the best players he and

his staff can find, to fit his offense and defense.

What's done is done as far as UNT goes. I'd bet that his dad could find him a scholarship if Riley doesn't get the playing time. If Riley should get the 5A Offensive Player of the Year a second time and Brown doesn't play him at quarterback, he'll open himself to ridicule and he'll deserve it. For those who think that Riley's too short, may I remind you of the starting quarterback in the NFL semifinals this year...Drew Brees, 6'0", 209.

Wasn't that the arugment about McCoy? That he was only a 3-star recruit, and would be a nice back-up to Snead......how'd that end up again?

how many 5'10" QB's has Texas, or any other major D-1A program, started in the last 10 years? Colt is 6'3" 195. Riley will be lucky to be a 3 star.

And as far as the Doug Flutie/Drew Brees comparos go, have at it (Keep in mind Brees is 2+ inches taller than Dodge). Submitting two guys out of thousandsis a weak support for any argument. Yeah sure, anything is POSSIBLE, but it isn't probable . I suppose Mark Cuban could call me and offer a couple mill because he realizes I'm sick of my job and would rather write and travel, but I'm not gonna turn in my two weeks notice just yet.

Mark those words...I agree, it won't happen...not now, with UT in the running for a national championship every year.

I don't think Riley thinks he going play QB anyway because they did not recruit him as one. Obviously playing for Texas is more important to him than play QB, and if thats what he wants more power to him.

Brees is closer to 5'11", Dodge still has time to grow, and I don't have time to list all of the sub-6' QB's that have started for major D-1A programs over the last ten years. Not many 150 pounders, but plenty under 6'. The ones listed at 5'11" are usually closer to 5'10" and the ones listed at 6' are usually closer to 5'11". Some even exaggerate a tad more. Besides, didn't Riley just grow two inches and put on 30+ lbs over the last few weeks?
