I have to think that they are getting Hank ready to replace Coach V when he retires. Hank has always been real good to me and I think he will be a terrific AD for North Texas someday.

AD's are not normally groomed to replace another. There are AD searches conducted just like for coaches when one leaves. And who is to say Hank won't leave before RV? He almost got the AD job at A$M-CC last year.

And Rick V turns 65 yrs. old this next year?:blink:

As NT80 said in his above post, a national search would most likely take place for an AD in Denton because UNT needs one helluva' proven fund-raiser and our history the last 10 or so years suggests we haven't been inundated with such in Denton. FWIW, most of the monies raised by Rick V and (ok, because of DD's friendship with UNT alum MattMac which became a friendship only when DD came to UNT but............MattMac's name had been on UNT potential donors lists long before DD arrived in Denton--hint/hint); anyway, from these extensive potential donor's lists such monies raised by RV/DD probably could have been raised 10 or so years ago and I can't remember who was in charge of fundraising back then but I have a pretty good idea.

Think big, North Texans, we don't have to keep re-cycling personnel because that is pretty well what has us where we've been the last 25 years athletically (as compared to all other schools in NCAA D1) and (once again) check your media guides if you need a cold stark reminder of that quarter of a century (across the board) varsity team records; especially check the fundraising totals for UNT before Rick V arrived in Denton.

Speaking of Hank DickeNson, is it just me or does it seem just a tad bit strange to have our university's Deputy Athletic Director also serving as our radio network color commentator (for football and home BB) and play-by-play analyst for road BB games?? Can this same sort of scenario be found at other D-1A schools?

Yes it is odd. If his primary function is to be fund raising, then he shouldn't have enough time in the day to do color commentary for football and half the bball season. Unless he's already got that whole stadium fundraising thing in the bag.

Hank does a great job on the broadcasts and we are lucky to have a quality broadcast team like Hank & George. Just listen to some other school's radio guys sometime (try Smut's for a real laugh) and you'll see how fortunate we are.

I agree Hank does a great job on the Radio and hosting the MGI, but is he not doing a good job at his main job, FUNDRAISING?

Seems to me there is a conflict. Wouldn't most fundraisers want to bring potential donors to games?

I am not questioning the broadcast team chemistry, I think they do a great job. My quesiton revolves around the time spent traveling to games, and time spent boradcasting. As a Senior Asst. AD, should his time be devoted to fundraising? And how can he wine and dine potential donors during athletic events if he is doing color commentary?

DING, DING, DING -- That is the correct answer. We can get a color man in football, basketball broadcaster and MGI host for a heck of a lot less than we pay a Senior Asst. AD.

Hank is not the only fundraiser in the Athletic Department. I'm sure a major donor will get the attention he needs, chill.

Yeah those two hours a night, twice a week that Hank broadcasts......man, we would have 8 stadiums by now if it wasn't for this.

It helps to think prior to typing. Add in travel time also, but the main problem is he is on the radio when he should be entertaining potential donors....during the games.

I assume by travel time you mean for away games. Hank normally wouldn't be entertaining potential donors to away games anyway. RV is usually at home basketball games in his courtside seats, many times by himself. I'm sure he would be happy to escort Hank's next big donor to the game.

Come on, give them some credit for knowing how to handle a potential donor. It's not like there is ten millionaires coming thru the door every day wanting to see a JJ home game with Hank or else they're taking their money to SMUt. Geez.
