I know it's early , but damn I can't wait till this season starts. TD says that whoever the man is out there will not have to be looking over their shoulder. Should be a great battle to watch.

If Vizza starts , and say Riley sings with someone else like Mizzu or TCU , Vizza could shatter all NT passing records when all is said and done.

It will be interesting to see how the four QBs from DD's offense last year develop in this new all-shotgun, five receiver, no TE, passing-style offense. I expect some tired arms but I expect we'll see some QBs blossom under Dodge's teaching and scheme. Accuracy, mobility, and quick release will be a requirement. Let the competition begin! :)

I think that's why Vizza may have the edge going in. He is the only who has played in that type of system.

If we don't get Riley I really Hope we do not lose him to TCU (or SMU). If he goes to a BCS school in the top part of thier conference it might not hurt as bad, but to lose him to a non-BCS school would hurt.

Wilson played at a JC that runs a style that is close

Meager started 3 years in HS that ran a 4 receiver off.

I know TCU and SMU , and NT for that matter have already offered a ship. I have a feeling Mizzu will make Riley their #1 priority next year to be the heir apparent to Chase Daniels.

I thought Coffeyville JC was a run based offense, but I don't know Ive never seen one of their games.

As far as Meager , I've only seen 1 Pierce game a few years back , from what I remember they mainly used 3 WRs , but I may be wrong. Meager broke his leg his junior year in HS. Did he start on varsity as a frosh ?

No Meager broke his leg at the spring game at the end of his Jr. year and came back after the summer and played

I vote for Mr. Meager (Daniel,... not his dad). I'm basing this on the flashes of great play that I've seen from Daniel, and my confidence that Coach Dodge can coach/teach Daniel to reach his full potential.

Nathan Tune will be his toughest competition......a competition that could last right up to the week of the OU game.

I voted for Tune, but I believe that Meager could surprise and have a big year.

I really feel that DD and staff really broke this kid. He was pretty highly touted coming out of HS, and to perform like he has I think really speaks to the coaching he has had.

I really think it the only QB that doesn't have a chance is Phillips...the rest are all pretty equal I believe in their chances at winning the job.

I am just so happy that we will have ONE QB.

This makes our offense better before we take one snap in a game

wanted to also say how surprised I was to see that Meager was ahead in the poll...I have always been a Meager guy, but this board has not. I think that says alot about the expectations we have for Dodge and his impact on our QB's

These days are good days in NT land

Am i missing something here? Was i the only one that noticed the team seemed more enthused whenever WW or Phillips were in the game as opposed to Meager. Nothing against Meager but I felt that the guys on the team just seemed to respond whenever WW or Phillips were running the offense. Another thing did anyone notice how whenever Meager was pulled or not playing how he basically hung out by himself like he wasn't a member off the team. Again nothing against Meager maybe that's just him, but I would personally like to see either WW or Phillips start

This is at best a difficult, at worst an impossible thing to predict. None are experienced in Dodge's system. All on the current roster have some strengths and weaknesses. You would almost have to give them a leg up because they will have the spring to learn the system before fall workouts.

I think that Vizza has the best overall ability to flourish in this new system and apparently TD thinks so as well. I think that he is the most accurate passer of the lot and I believe that Alamo Heights ran a no-huddle offense. His high school accomplishments are perhaps even greater than the rest because AHHS had never won a state championship.

Wilson seems better suited for this style of play than any other. He's certainly the fastest and most agile of all the candidates. I believe that his accuracy will be fine for short, quick-developing plays.

Phillips still has good leadership characteristics, the strongest arm and is probably the second most accurate passer behind Vizza. He's the slowest of the five but he's far from a statue. He looked good with the green team but that was in a run-style offense.

Tune won a state championship at Celina in his only year at quarterback. He is truly the unknown in this situation. If we were keeping a run-first offense, then I think that Tune would be my pick but he may be starting from scratch trying to run a passing, no-nuddle offense. He could be the beast or just as easily, the worst.

Okay, Meager hasn't shown us much and maybe that hasn't been totally his fault. I do see flashes of excellent play but he never seems to sustain that momentum. But, the thing that worries me most about Meager is that he's just a concussion away from having his career end. I think that he should hang 'em up.

He is the closest thing we have to the Statue of Liberty in these parts.

He has a hell of a cannon, and has made some really nice throws, but do not think for one second he wins this job. He will not even be the #3 guy.

Nothing against him, he could be a suitable QB in another system, but not Dodgeball.

Sorry to all you Phillips guys out there...he is no longer a candidate.

There will be some that post right after this screaming how I am wrong, but you wait and see when Spetember rolls around.

...on that last thread, Woody is a strong candidate, but if he doesn't win the #1 spot look for him to switch positions.

I don't think we will waste his abilities playing in a back-up QB role

This is what I would like to see happen

Wilson shows he can do the job in Sping Practice and makes it easy on Dodge to redshirt Vizza for his first year.

Then i would like to see Wilson really take over for the next two years, then we turn it over to Vizza for the next three.

I know this takes Riley Dodge out of the equation but i really dont think he is going to come to NT. If he has the same kind of year this year as he had last year then he will get a chance from a BCS school. If he does come here then it should be one hell of a battle between Vizza and Dodge in 2009.

Despite his passing abilities and his knowledge of runing a spread offense, I just don't see Riley going to a BCS program. He just doesn't have the size they look for in a QB. I know there are exceptions, but not many. Unless they recruit him as a defensive back.

I'm not exactly sure why, but my gut feeling is that Meager will win the starting QB position and have a good year. I have no reason to believe this based on his past performances other than the fact that he was being forced to run one of the worst offenses in the nation. Some of his decisions have looked bad - but then again, the whole freakin' offense has been horrible the past 2 years!

He has great speed, and I honestly think that his arm is every bit as strong as Phillips'. He just may thrive as a junior in Dodge's system.

I would say Wilson #2 and Phillips #3 with Vizza getting a red shirt.

The only way that Vizza doesn't red shirt is if the other 3 just totally stink it up in the new system.

If WW is under center , imagine a shotgun formation with J-Mo on one side and Cam on the other.

A lot of talent not even 8 in the box could fully cover. :scared:

Great play? Not sure what games you have been watching, but MayDay has shown enough and I am done with him. Is it possible that Dodge could develop him into something? Possibly, but I think he could develop Wilson or Tune into something more...Either way it is wonderful to actually have this conversation and to have a coach who was a former QB that can actually groom a QB ;)

G. Vizza (10 inch headlines) is the starting quarterback in September by default! He is Todd Dodge's #1 hand picked recruit; that played the identical system at Alamo Heights.

Throw out any prior experience of Meager & Phillips (under Darrell Dickey)

Woody Wilson would be the ideal fit but his accuracy is suspect. (he's clearly #2)

Meager looks like a very good extra point and field goal holder candidate while Phillips would be an awesome clip board holder.

No one knows anything about Tune.

Last note:

Riley Dodge will sign on with Dad. Let's not even start a dog and pony show with his recruitment!

Riley Dodge IS NOT a BCS quarterback and it would be the ultimate slap in the face of North Texas and Todd Dodge for him to select SMU or TCU types over UNT.

How in the hell can Todd Dodge sell North Texas to other high school kids (and parents) when young Riley feels that our program is beneath similar D1 programs.

Todd Dodge has already got this done!

Sorry, How many more years does Wilson have of eligability? I thought He had two when he came here and he used one last season.

He has one left. Someone posted he still had 2 , but he will be in his senior season this year.
