OK I'll play your little game:

OU-loss...but a surprisingly good showing

SMU-win..to much offense

ARK-loss...bad, Mcfadden is a beast and will win the Heismen

WKU-win...Td's first blowout

MAC-win...granted that it's Buffalo, which has come up

Troy-loss...just to much for a young team

MUTS-win...our d shows up

LALA-win...things are coming together

ULM-win...Riley Dodge anounces that he is playing for dad

FIU-win...ugly

FAU-win...uglier

Ark St.-loss..can't win forever

8-4 sounds good to me. 2nd in the belt, with an incredibly young team.

We'll see much improvement in our team as a whole. JMo has a year like Ricky Williams(Tech) and one of our 3 DD era QB's opens our eyes with his passing ability. games will be close and our team comes out playing to win. We'll have a better record and sit in the middle of the pack in the Belt.

6-6

start 2-5, rip off 5 straight as boys get a hold of Dodge's system en route to a 7-5 season. Could still be in contention for SBC title, depending on how it shakes out. I expect a big 2008.

Then again, who knows. Last year I said that I thought 2006 might be rough and that 2007 would probably be a good season with all the young guys coming back... kinda hoping im right on that prediction!

I hope you won't fall off the bandwagon when we're not playing for a national championship next year ;) .

Why does everyone think TD can walk on water? He'll have a good game plan and has one of the best recruiting classes to date, but it's going to take time to integrate everyone into his system of play. We'll be lucky to be over .500 next year. Not Dodge's fault, it's just the card he's going to be dealt his first year.

If I'm Stoops, how do I gameplan for us now? Seriously, if I were a coach I suppose I would grab all tape possible..including SLC games?

Maybe look at Mizzo's games. After all, they adapted some of the system to suit Chase.

Just curious what some of the coaches we have here would do.

Yeah... way too early for season predictions. But if I were to give my gut feeling, I'd have to say that 6-6 would be about right. Keep in mind, this team was 5-18 the last two seasons. That puts us about six and a half games under .500. If we were to double our win total last year, if you think we are, right now, twice as good as we were last year, that puts us at .500. No better.

I could see as high as 8-4, or as low as 2-10. Remember, we were a 3-9 team last year, which I believe accurately reflects how good we were. I feel we have a good recruiting class, but you are still talking about starting true freshmen: guys who, a year ago, were playing against (relative to the college game) marginal competition. Even if half of them turn out to be as good as advertised, we're still stuck with some holes that'll be tough to fill this year.

Also, keep in mind that we are talking about a wholesale change to the offense, on par with Nebraska's change from the option to the West Coast offense. We are going from a double tight power run offense to a four and five wide spread. The guys coming in will be familiar with the system, but that's a lot of ground to make up for the junior or senior.

Regardless, I expect we'll be a lot happier with the football product on and off the field this year. Dodge coaches players to leave it all on the field, to take up for your teammates, and really become a family. He uses the phrase "going on this journey together" a lot. Not a bunker mentality, but a reliance on the guys who you're going to be spending the next four years of your life around. Teamwork is something that is kinda hard to quantify, but you recognize it when you see it, and there is no substitute for how entertaining and fun to watch that kind of unity is. When your team plays with intensity and class, and just flat out gets beat by a better team, that sting goes away a lot quicker than having all the talent in the world and squandering it.

Johnny Quinn was a 90 catch, 1500 yard, 15 touchdown caliber receiver. To me he was bar none the best athlete, player, and person in the program since I started watching. We'll never know how good he could have been at North Texas, and that makes me a little sick. But I don't get the feeling we'll be seeing much of that anymore. If a guy like Breece Johnson becomes his heir apparent, he'll be used.

12-0 We are going to the Orange Bowl.

Stop the delusions. 13-0 after we beat BOISE STATE for the national title. BCS will fold because of us and finally give in to some type of playoff system. Todd Dodge will sign an extension for another 30 years.

Spare me the green goggles. I've read enough.

Say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

The thing I cant wait for is that SMU game. Everyone startng now needs to work on bringing someone that's never been to a UNT game to this event, because it's sure to be a blast in that stadium. If you get the SLC fans to attend, it'll look like that place was hit with a green flood! Given smu's poor attendence, I think we could literally turn that game into our own home field advantage by outnumbering them in attendance.

I think UNT will bring the largest number of visiting fans (wearing Mean Green) since Ford Stadium opened. It will be my first trip to the SMU campus since their Ownby Stadium era.

W/L record in 2007? I think our last few recruiting classes prior to the one just completed this week were not good ones overall (even at the SBC level) and I don't think you have to be a college football guru or expert to realize this. The Tulsa and La Tech losses for 2 years in a row should have been a wake-up call for even the most die-hard DD Ball fans about how our recruiting had been going.

We have allowed some SBC schools (mainly Troy U and probably MTSU) to "temporarily" pass us by. I don't know if we can overcome those 2 schools in Coach Dodge's 1'st year at UNT this Fall, but haven't we also all seen 1'st year coaches come in and synergize a football team, its student body and its alumnus/fan base, too? I think the SBC schedule this next Fall might even favor UNT (since most of our tougher SBC games were on the road this last Fall).

I think we will win more games than we lose in 2007 and Todd Dodge will keep his UNT career W/L record above .500 no matter how many years he is our HFC, but what I believe he will build at North Texas it took Boise State a few years to do with their own annual Bronco recruiting classes that never (ever) received much notoriety from the Rivals.com folks.

I am going to attend the games this year expecting to see a more disciplined team, with a promising future. When that happens, I will be happy.

While I expect the excitement level to be far superior to what we have had the last few years, it may not translate directly into wins and losses.

TD selected recruits to fit his system. However, most of those guys will probably not see the field this year. Those recruits that do see action, will be freshmen having to play at a higher level than they are currently used to.

These are the most exciting times we have had at NT in a long time. However, I sincerely hope that all NT fans can keep things in perspective this season. It is going to be a season of learning for players, coaches and fans.

This team will improve. But, it is going to take some time.

I think NT will do better than many think. This is an experienced team that I think even DD could have led to a significantly better year. I have confidence that TD will develop a capable quarterback and that along should make this team a contender in the Belt. Ten starters return on defense and I can see that being the strength of the team. My guess is a 8-4 record and a Belt Championship with only one conference loss.

--We were 3-9....... We likely will improve to about 6-6 or maybe 7-5.... and then do better than that the following year.

I don't want to get too optimistic the first year. We will have either a freshman QB or one of the 3 we had last year..

I'll agree with this (6-6). A lot of changes this year, especially the playbook. I expect Dodge will take many of last year's players to a new level and challenge them with repetition to become better, and they will eventually, it just might not happen in Norman or Fayetteville yet.

wow... and we just belittled 4 straight SBC titles... if Dodge only wins 3 in a row, will we hate him too?

I'm tired, so correct me if I missed something: when did we belittle 4 straight SB titles?

I thought the general consensus was appreciation for the titles, but bitterness about the lack of progress that could have been made from it, following by a messy exit.

Ditto, NT80...

Somehow, though, I think TD's 1'st Mean Green team will go over .500 in Wins/Losses; how much over .500 remains to be seen.

Lest we all forget, we weren't very competitive (even in the SBC) the last 2 years, so lets keep it real for our 2007 expectations.

How much "develop'able" talent DD left behind remains to be seen, but I think he left a bunch that with:

(1) a coach who wants to be here (and that aspect will further be "refreshingly" evident in TD's post-game radio comments this Fall)

(2) with some day-in-day-out coach's care and concern for all aspects of our student/athlete and

(3) all of this mixed with discipline (and a disciplined-style of football on Game Day);

.........nevertheless..................this could all make for a most interesting inaugural season for Todd Dodge and his new staff.

I think we will all be pleased with the long-term aspects of a Todd Dodge-led Mean Green football program and I think we can now realistically start talking about Top 25 rankings in due time. After all, this is what our goal should have always been since we made our come-back to the NCAA D1-A level, right?

Even if TD went 5-7 this season, and kept the OU and Ark games respectable i.e. by us putting 20-24 points on the board against their starters, that to me would a very repectable turnaround for a first year coach coming into a situation that's been nothing short of a disaster the past 2 years.
