MTSU football recruiting class nearly complete

MTSU football landed 12 more verbal commitments over the weekend, bringing its recruiting class to 21.

So far, the Blue Raiders have three mid-term signees and 18 verbal commitments, including 10 from Florida. Goodpasture offensive lineman Mark Fisher and Morristown West fullback Wesley Hale are the only in-state commitments.

As many as 10 more prospects are expected to make an official visit to MTSU this weekend. National Signing Day is Feb. 6.

If I'm reading the list correctly, the MUTS only have 2 players out of 21 committments from the state of Tennessee? I guess if you're going to be good in Tennessee, then you better be ready to recruit out-of-state. Lots of players from Florida...

I just can't imagine seeing any school in Texas with more than 90% of its players coming from out-of-state!

I think we now have 12 commitments from the state of Florida. For years we've wanted to do more recruiting in Florida. With over 325 1A prospects in that state alone, the big five and fiu/fau can't sign'em all. At most, in a good year in Tennessee, the number of 1A prospects may rise as high as 45 or 50. It'd be more if the memphis city schools did a decent job, but a few years back, the memphis paper did an series on HS athletes in the city and as many as 80% that had 1A interest could not sign due to poor academics.

On recruiting in Florida, our head coach is a Florida native and played QB for the Seminoles, our Offensive Coordinator was a QB and GA at Florida under Spurrier, and our defensive coordinator is from Miami (actually the son of the Mayor) and went to Florida State.
