The transition from playing high school football to competing on the college level will be one of the few changes Evan Walker will have to deal with this fall.

The former Colleyville Heritage standout played in a spread offense the last few seasons with his close friend and fellow all-state selection Breece Johnson. Walker secured a chance to play in a similar situation for at least the next four years when he orally committed to play for North Texas on Sunday.

Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day recruits can sign national letters of intent is Feb. 7. Walker is the fourth player to commit to play for new UNT head coach Todd Dodge.

"The offense is the exact same one we ran in high school," Walker said. "I can fit right in and the campus is beautiful. I am excited to play for coach Dodge. He is a proven winner and the rest of the coaches seem like good guys."

Tulsa and Houston also showed interest in Walker, but UNT was the only school to offer a scholarship to one of the most productive receivers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this past season. Walker, 5-10, 178, caught 99 passes for 1,476 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2006.

Walker was one of two wide receivers to receive a scholarship offer from UNT over the weekend. Tyler John Tyler wide receiver Roderick Warren was also offered by UNT.

Warren said UNT is his favorite at this point, but he has a few other visits to take, including one to Louisiana Tech.

Fort Worth Eastern Hills athlete Ed Young also visited UNT over the weekend, but has yet to receive an offer. Young played quarterback for Eastern Hills but is being recruited as a cornerback by UNT.

Young said that he is prepared to sign with the Mean Green, if he receives an offer.

Woodrow Wilson defensive back Greg McCoy orally committed to TCU on Sunday, but said he could still take a visit to UNT next weekend. McCoy is ranked No. 37 on The Dallas Morning News Area Top 100 list.

Dodge said shortly after he took over as the Mean Green's head coach in mid-December that he could have as few as 16 scholarships to give for his first recruiting class.

UNT is quickly filling those slots with wide receivers. Walker is the third to commit to play for the Mean Green.

"It will benefit everyone to have so many wide receivers coming in," Walker said. "Coach Dodge likes to spread the ball around. It will make us a better team to have so many talented receivers."

Walker said UNT recruited him to play in the slot, the same position he played at Colleyville Heritage along side Johnson.

"Breece is one of my good friends," Walker said. "I am going to love playing with him for another four years."
