A little birdie says the University of Minnesota is interested in talking to Texas Christian University's Gary Patterson about its head football coaching job. One problem for the Gophers is that Patterson reportedly has a $1 million contract buyout.

The Gophers job is being checked out for Patterson by friends.

Patterson's teams have a 54-20 record in his seven years at TCU, and he is the only coach in school history with four 10-victory seasons. Three times, including last season, his Horned Frogs have won 11 games, and they have gone to six bowl games in seven years.

Under Patterson, TCU has been ranked among the top 25 teams nationally five of the past seven seasons. Patterson, 46, played safety and linebacker at Kansas State.

Jim Wacker, who coached the Gophers from 1992-96, came to Minnesota from TCU.

well it might have been, but with Todd Graham back in the mix up here for Tulsa, the scramble for recruits didn't get any easier.

Large spread on the Minnesota - Patterson situation in the Star telegram this morning. Million dollar buyout at TCU might be a hinderance , however Minn. board of regents said money no problem.
