Word at Tulsa is Kragthorpe is going to Louisville. Announcement tomorrow evening. It has been reported that several committed recruits are now withdrawing their commitments.

What position?

He's an excellent coach and I wish that he'd been coaching at North Texas the past nine years (Thanks Dr Hurley).

I hope Tulsa finds a way to keep him. The Tulsa fans are a classy bunch, and they have endured losing many coaches to big schools because they cant match resources with schools which get the television revenue.

Ive heard Larry Cokers name mentioned as possible for Tulsa job if this goes through... although this came from my roommate and I didnt bother to find out the source, so take that for what it is- which is admittedly not much

That would sort of surprise me (Kragthorpe leaving Tulsa). The reason I say that is earlier, he turned down the chance to talk to North Carolina, because he was committed to Tulsa. Also, from what I understand, money isn't what motivates Kragthorpe, he's a big family man. (Isn't his Dad an assistant at TU for a $1 a year salary...or something like that?)

And, the Louisville job just opened up (with Petrino leaving for the Falcons). So, that would mean that Kragthorpe would have had to make up his mind pretty quickly....

Not doubting your sources, just saying that seems to go against everything that Steve has been saying of late...

EDIT: Hey, I just read the Tulsa World's website. The connection, is that Kragthorpe and Louisville's AD are big pals---they met at Northern Arizona.

Anyway, I don't know why Steve would turn down North Carolina and take this gig. At North Carolina, he would have been replacing a guy with a losing record. At, UL he'll be following a guy who just went 12-1.

We'll see what happens......

FROM RIVALS.COM:

Sources around the University of Louisville have confirmed A.D. Tom Jurich is in the final stages of a deal with Tulsa head coach Steve Kragthorpe. CardinalSports.com has more on this breaking news story.

UofL officials are preparing a big release for later today on the Cardinals' new coach. Amazingly, it was just 9 p.m. last night when former head coach Bobby Petrino told players he's leaving the school.

Kragthorpe just his fourth year as the Head Football Coach at The University of Tulsa. Tulsa was in charge of the most dramatic turnaround in college football

If Steve Kragthorpe takes the UL job, anyone else want to wager that Papa Johns Pizza Stadium was a very large deciding factor in that decision?

TU's Skelly Stadium is an expanded "trackless" version of Fouts Field. Had the Texas Department of Transportation not told us that they needed some of the Fouts Field property to expand I35-E and therefore forcing UNT to build a new football stadium, we probably would have done just like Tulsa U and just kept on patch-work quilting our own stadium as the 'Canes have been doing with Skelly Stadium. THANK YOU TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION! :D

Of course, UL's new conference affiliation (Big East) will probably have something to do with Coach "K" leaving Tulsa, too (if he decides to take the job). Personally, I think he'd be crazy not to take the Cardinal's HFC's job and Tulsa will be very lucky to keep him.

At UNT, the time-table to build our new stadium needs to (still) be sooner than later. Hey T. Boone, gotta' little extra pocket change left over?
