All of you experts out there are unbelivable. You want the old coach gone , then the new coach is recruiting players that can't play. No one has had a better chance to evaluate the kid from SLC than TD. He deemed him worth a scholarship , that should be the factor that matters. By the way the Star-Telegram reports this AM that a WR from Colleyville Heritage has committed to UNT. Breese Johnson 6-2,178 lbs., he was the leading 5A reciever in the area with 63 catches, 993 yds. and14 TDs.

Agree, buff64...

Anyone out there prefer last year's DFW recruiting efforts (under Flanagan) compared to the "barely scratched surface" recruiting in DFW we are seeing thus far with Coach Dodge's staff; most of whom (BTW) who have not yet even unpacked their boxes to set up their new offices out at the Mean Green Village?

Our annual "national rankings" (out of 119 other D1-A schools) for most of the last 9 years was a pretty big hint to most that we needed a change of direction in Denton. YET.............lets allow our new MG coaches staff to get thru at least one year before all this intense microscopic critiquing begins and lets all support all these new efforts during this new era. Hellsbells, even I gave Dickey 7 years (out of his 9 yrs. in Denton) worth of moral, financial and ticket-purchasing support.

Sometimes this board reminds me of those L.O.L. (Little Ol' Lady) sewing bee circles we've all heard about with all the non-stop gossip and chatter that supposedly goes on at those events.

PS: Size of a college linebacker concerns some of you: Anyone remember Mike Singletery of Baylor and then the Chicago Bears? Was he even 5' 10" truth be known?

1st team all state, he must be doing something right

When is the last time Mean Green Land residents were complaining about getting a 1st team all stater from the Metroplex? Are you guys serious?

It is the "Wrinkled $100 Bill Theory" at work. Just ask FFR for the explanation.

I've watched this guy play a few times...this is exciting news.

1st team All-State? Arguably the best player on a defense shutting down some of the best teams in Texas? I'll take this guy any day. Welcome!

Actually that's my quote, which FFR uses often.

I told Rick that it was my observation that the only thing that North Texas students were ever consistent about was bitching and moaning. I went on to say that North Texas students were such prodigious complainers that someone could stand on the busiest corner on the North Texas campus and hand out $100.00 bills to students. Eventually one of them would complain that their's was wrinkled.

Good call. I'm a student too but I support the new regime completely. I know what you mean about a good part of the population. Never satisfied.

I don't know, guys....who was the last 1st team all state defensive player we had? Booger? I know he was the damn 5a defensive player of the year. I'll take Padron.

The other thing I'll take from this thread is the great quote from smu---now my sig. line....

Sam Mills was pretty good too, and I believe he was listed as 5'9", which means he was probably shorter than that.

He might turn out to be great, but the fact that he's only being offered a walk-on spot at TCU/SMU bothers me.

I'm not sure that's totally accurate. From what I have heard, SMU basically made him an offer but it was turned down.

Evan Walker anyone? Apparently another impressive recruit on the verge of orally committing...anyone have any info? Stay tuned.

He was the area 5A receptions leader with 99 for 1,476 yards, 15 TDs. Evan was Associated Press 1st Team All-State and Dallas Morning News 2nd Team All-Area.

So far this is all I've seen 2nd team all area. He isn't listed on scout or rivals.

WR EVAN WALKER Colleyville Heritage Sr. 5-11 185

Area 5A receptions leader with 99 for 1,476 yards, 15 TDs

Padron is a good pickup for NT. All the kid does is seemingly make plays. I'll take a guy like that over and over again. Don't get too caught up in his height/weight. He's a good player who should be able to flourish in the system that Dodge puts into place.

With Padron, Johnson, and Walker...that will be 3 First Team All-State players. When was the last time we landed anything like that?

Good point...I haven't been as optimistic about the possibility of a great recruiting class like this one since the year we beat Cincy in the NO bowl. The beginnings of this class are looking good. Hopefully some other good recruits will see this and jump on board the Dodge bandwagon. I feel good about this class so far.

I try to ignore anything coming out of SMU but has any one noticed that our new LB Padron they're ripping for being to small is bigger than the DE Yenga they got.

 The 'Stang Gang are going to be doing a lot more rippin' over the next few years with Todd Dodge as Mean Green head football coach; but probaby more like, uh, "rippin' at the seams?" :bangin:

And yes, NTPhiKap99, it is funny that our future star linebacker is larger than their DE, ie, Yenga. FWIW, has Yenga signed anything official that says he is officially at SMU just as of yet?

Someone mentioned that Padron will fit well in the Dodge system and I think many of us would wholeheartedly concur. With Boise State having had 5 head football coaches the last 9 years, anyone else think the Broncos have had some sort of system put in place that seems to have be working for their football program (even when there were so many personnel changes)?

Not too sure I've been this excited about the future of Mean Green football since Hayden Fry was hired at NT. And BTW, SMU'er's, did we ever get around to telling you thanks for firing a 7 & 4 Mustang HFC in 1972 so we could hire him in Mean Green Country? If not.........a very belated thank you.

Hold on to your seats, folks, it's going to be a wild ride!:)

Seems to me that not to long ago we had a "short" player in BK that was not too bad despite his height.

And dont forget Aggies and NFL Cowboys great Dat Nguyen. I think he was 5'9 or 5'10. He was definitely good enough to start for several years in the NFL and the New Jersey Con Man Bill Parcells. Thoughts?

You can just about bank on it. My mother-in-law is the head office lady at Colleyville Heritage. Said the offer to Evan and his brother Ean is already on the table.
