I won't apologize for keeping tabs on our other coaching candidates...

Harbaugh already recruiting well

New Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh hasn't taken long to impress the recruits. While recruiting success was predictable for the young and energetic coach, it's good news for Cardinal fans that it has come so soon.

Just days after his announcement as Stanford's coach, Harbaugh convinced 6-foot-6, 275-pound offensive tackle Brad Hallick to switch pledges from Virginia to Stanford.

Hallick, rated three-stars by Rivals.com and considered the 57th best offensive tackle prospect in the country, is a big coup for the Stanford program.

He called Harbaugh last week and told him the good news.

"He was really excited and thinks I'm going to be a big part of their program," Hallick said of Harbaugh's reaction. "I really like him and his vision for the future is exciting. He told me after I committed that he could do a cartwheel since I was technically his first commitment."

This was to be expected out of him no matter where he went. He picked a job that was a perfect fit for him and that is probably helping him out. Like Hatter said we should expect a lot of the same out of Dodge.

*edited for flow because I suck at it*

I doubt we'd have the same recruiting success with Harbaugh, since most around here don't know him. I'd look for some similar situations with Dodge.

I would love and hope to think that but Stanford is a very reputable football team/school and they are in the PAC 10 as well. Convincing a guy not commiting to Virginia to go to Stanford is not that a big a deal. NT is not in that position yet where they can just easily snag away recruits from other schools....if that were to happen I would honestly be shocked. I think a lot is being expected from TD this quickly....He still needs to get his feet wet and get a feel of whats already on this roster and them combine it with what kind of players can we recruit with the situation we are in. Dont expect any big news like what Jim Harbaugh is doing this season or maybe even a couple of years because if that is really the expectation level then I think you guys could in for a heartbreaker.

I dunno, at 2-9 and 3-8 in the SBC, I kind of operate under the assumption that it can't get much worse...

What has Harbaugh done besides lure a recruit from one private school to another? Stanford is not what I would call a hard sell. The kid may be from California?

Dodge will do fine at UNT. He need not win 10 games his first year to prove it. It will take a while to un-DD the current players and fans. Ticket sales, public relations, team discipline, offensive excitement, etc. will be his first positive doings.

UVA is actually a public school and both schools are not hard sells because UVA is in the ACC and Stanford is in the PAC 10. However NT is always a hard sell because its in the sunbelt and has a terrible football stadium.

You are correct, UVA is public. It does cost a lot of $$ for out-of-state tuition and is Very selective is the reason I thought it was private. There is a move to make some state's flagship public schools more like privates:

Back to NT, yes I agree being in the Sunbelt and Fouts are the two largest deterents to recruiting we have. The school's rep is fine but it's football conference and 1952 stadium lack quality.

Did this happen during the "dark" period for recruiting.....

Only the BCS schools are allowed to recruit in the so called "dark period" and with OU losing to a non-BCS school , the NCAA will now be both deaf and dumb on the issue. Before , they were only dumb.
