108 is repectable, that means we are in the top 1/3 in the nation, and it also means if we keep playing the way we have the last few game for the remainder of the season we should be in a pretty good spot at the end of the year..

The RPI is a joke , always has been. Let's see , WKU is #40 ....APPALACHIAN STATE # 10 ??

Meanwhile UConn ..... UCONN is # 81 , Texas is # 75 , LSU # 72 ... the list could go on and on.

Last year , Missouri St. and Hofstra both finished in the top 30 of the RPI and didn't get into the Big Dance. Let's be honest a mid-major poll or the RPI will not get us in the Big Dance , WE HAVE TO WIN THE SBC to go dancing!!! GMG

It's nice to see us getting some props from a poll that is based on other college coach's votes and not a whack computer system.

UHH... beacause it rates the top mid-majors.... and we are a mid-major! Why does everybody complain about this poll?

I have found that no matter what you post , good or bad , someone will complain about something.

I bet if we get into the BIG DANCE , people will start to complain that we shouldn't be a # 12 - 16 seed rather than #8 - 11 seed.

How is it Johnny Jones does not get a vote in this?

Look at the bottom under "voting panel." No JJ, No North Texas.

I guess that is a certain amount of respect. NT is voted #20 BY THEIR PEERS with no input from JJ.

You may harp on the RPI, but it plays an important role in the at-large bid process for the NCAA tournament.

I suspect the RPI also factors into the NIT, so we must work to get our RPI higher as the season progresses if we want to have any chance to make an at-large bid should we not win the conference tournament or are the regular season conference champion.

All in all, the Mid-Major poll means absolutely freakin' nothing. It might be a feel good thing, but when it's time to get down and dirty, it carries little to no weight in post-season play.

As best I can tell, they rotate coaches each season. Last season, if I recall correctly, JJ was on the panel.

I disagree. Perception is everything. As flawed as these systems may be, having our name high in any one of these charts (voting or stats based) facilitates the perception that UNT is a team to be reckoned with. And I don't just mean the perception of NCAA/NIT Tournament types. Having our name in the Mid-Major Top 25 also positively effects our team's self-perception and confidence in their ability to play as well as effects how other teams around the league view us. IMO, this can translate to real results at game time. In addition, I would think (I don't know this) chart rankings of any kind would help with recruiting as this is just one more thing our coaches can show a recruit when they consider UNT. Obviously, if you are voted a national Top 25 Mid-Major by your peers, the coaches/team/school are doing something right as the team's success is being acknowledged at a national level.
