Close game too. New Mexico is not a slouch but I would expect Tech to win by more.

Lot of people bash The General but he does get results. His kids go to class, they play hard, and they win. Now if Knight can get Tech past the Sweet 16.

Coach K & Dean Smith do/did the same without abusing their players.

Different styles. Knight is a "Lou Panella" type and K and Smith are "Joe Torre" type. They both get results. I wouldn't exactly call it "abuse." But that is another thread.

Unfortunately, Coach K will ultimately be the best of those 3 (which sucks 'cause I hate Duke). He is young, is a great coach, and has had a lot of sucess every year. Plus look how important he is to that program. Coach K was out for a year for some health reason I can't remember. Duke blew that year. Coach K came back the next season and Duke picked up where they left off before.

Big deal. Dean Smith did it in fewer years and without bullying people along the way. That was an uncomfortable scene today after the game in which Tech's president and AD tries to give the moron his props all the while you could tell they seemed nervously on edge because of not knowing what off-the-wall, embarrassing stunt or comment he would make on national TV.

When I think of great coaches in Texas who owns records for wins I'll always think of Granbury's Leta Andrews and Fort Worth Dunbar's Robert Hughes who both reached their national records with much more class and respect to the game.

Leta Andrews certainly accepted her national record with class. However, I do recall several incidents while I was in high school of the UIL looking seriously at the Granbury program. Seems Leta had a knack at finding players with random "relatives" in Granbury, who would transfer over for the basketball season then decide to transfer back to their original school to "graduate with their friends."

Although Granbury was never cited for any major offenses that I know of, it certainly worried the boosters. Regardless, Leta is an excellent coach and can do at lot with a little. While she had plenty of natural abilities, Leta Andrews could certainly be credited with the college (Texas Tech) and WNBA success of Jia Perkins.

Coach K will do it in less time then Smith.
