I caught some of the last of it, and being born in Pampa, it was fun to see things about the town I never knew. We moved away when I was just a small child. My parents always liked Pampa. Trivia Question: What former NT football coach started by coaching Pampa? Yep, Odus Mitchell.

I've always thought that the Mitchell/Pampa/NT connection was pretty cool. I didn't find out about it until long after I was here.

By the way, in the Dateline show, my sister is in one of the shots (she's next to the Cavalier family in the church).

They're obviously running this story as a promo for their TV version of Friday Night Lights.

I really was afraid this show was going to suck (the book is my favorite of all time and the movie wasn't all horrible), but I gave it a chance and it's not that bad. The same guy that produced the movie (and is cousin to H.G. Bissinger) is doing the show. I'm kinda addicted to it now that I've seen all of the episodes online. It's not spectacular by any means, but a great guilty pleasure.

They apparently do the filming down in Pflugerville and the football footage is supposedly the Pflugerville team. Mack Brown did a cameo in the first episode...surprised our very own Todd Dodge hasn't been invited to do a cameo...maybe he has?

so did the show on Pampa, which was one tired cliche after another.

Considering they probably needed multiple story lines, I'll respectfully disagree with you. How many sons follow in their father's footsteps as a head coach for their hometown team? Cliche? I think not.

IMO, other than Stone Phillip's ridiculous questions to the kids, this was a good story and look at how important HS football is in the smaller communities across Texas.
