New Orleans was picked to finish tied for second in the western division with NT in the pre-season Sun Belt coaches' poll. The Bowling Green Daily News also picks New Orleans to be second in the west.

New Orleans' guard Bo McCalebb is the leading scorer and may be the best player in the Belt. Many BCS-type schools tried to illegally recruit McCalebb last season after Katrina destroyed his New Orleans' home and an injury forced him to take a medical redshirt. Last season's UNO coach Monte Towe called them looters. McCalebb turned down the illegal offers of free apartments and stayed with the Privateers.

Last spring coach Towe took an assistant's job with North Carolina State where he was an outstanding player during his playing days. New Orleans hired Billy Gillespie's assistant and recruiting coordinator Buzz Williams to be the new head coach. Gillespie said of Williams " Buzz will be impossible to replace."

This should be a tough game.

Towe played for North Carolina, not North Carolina State. He played against us in the 1988 NCAA first round in Salt Lake City.

I will miss the t-shirt and suit jacket.  And the Privateers fans defending the look.  Those were good times.

Yes, the Crockett and Tubbs look has moved on to the ACC. BTW, does a Privateer protect privates?

Towe played for North Carolina State in the mid-70s-same team as long-time NBA player David Thompson, whio could leap out of the gym.

It goes without saying that this is a big game. The SBC East looks about 5 times stronger on paper than the West. If we go by the BG article, NO is the main competion for us, so if we can win on the road, it is a major coup towards winning the West.

New Orleans beat NT twice last season without the injured McCalebb. This season McCaleb is back and averaging well over 20 points a game and Kendrick Davis will not be there to guard him.

IMO Davis is NT's best defensive player. Sturns gets more steals but Davis is more reliable at consistently containing an opposing player.

This could be a tough game.

The rest of the Privateer team is not as good as it was last year.

I will have to argue you on that one. I think Rich Young is our best on the ball and off the ball defender, plus he is leading the team in REBs. KD is second to him on the D-end.

No one will ever get me to say anything bad about Rich Young. He is an excellent player and a great athlete. Young will almost certainly guard McCalebb Saturday.

its time to unbuckle the belt.. Lets hope NT starts out hot and carrys the momentum thru out the game, and not come out cold and have to make up for it in the 2nd half like they have been

22-21 Mean green, thanks to Sturns w/ the offensive spark, and New Orleans coach for taking out McCallebb

I really don't understand this team....it seems like we always get dominated early then decide we want to play....better not do this tuesday
