I'm really not trying to put a damper on things, but I really don't expect a winning season in 2007. I love the hire, and I think this will work out incredibly well for North Texas for years to come. But with the installation of the new offense (and probably a new defense)...a late start in recruiting...a weak QB and reciever situation, a lot of things stack up against NT.

Maybe I'll be able to change my mind in seeing how the team responds in spring ball. But for now, I just can't set my expectations for 2007 too high. I hope I'm wrong though. wink.gif

How many times the past decades have we seen a new coach ignite a new spirit among his team and its fan base and have a good 1'st year? Now we've also seen some bad 2'nd years a la Fry's 2'nd season in Denton.

I think we might have enough talent to beat some lower division D1-A schools (which made up most of DD's 42 wins at UNT truth be known); but I'm anxious to see how JUCO recruiting goes this month and on national signing date as well.

Hayden Fry took over a Rod Rust team that had won only 1 game and Fry tied for the Missouri Valley Conference football championship his 1'st year in Denton (and the MVC did not have a bowl tie-in back during that era). sad.gif

There is just something about having a higher profile name coach (which we should all know by now that Todd Dodge is by all the statewide/national reaction to his hire by UNT) and how our present Mean Green football players are all going to want to make their individual impressions as to what they can bring to a team coached by Coach Dodge starting this Spring.

Folks (jeez, I just cannot get away from that damn word) sad.gif but anyway....... folks rolleyes.gif ...............this football program has been direction-less for quite awhile now in recruiting and an upward bound direction and the last 2 year's results should be all the proof in the pudding that anyone would ever need to know that.

Anyway...............back to the topic at hand as far as attendance for our home season opener with our new HFC:

...........31,000+ Standing Room Only..............

Why not? We've already started selling tickets, right? smile.gif

Dont underestimate the attention that will be heaped on NT because of Todd Dodge. I think we draw around 27K for the opener. This is a new era in UNT athletics, and a very exciting chapter is about to be written. People all over the state know Todd Dodge, and it will jump the attendance numbers immediately.

Let's see what we get as early as spring ball. I cant wait to see the spread offense with the team speed we have. This is what TD does best!

I just think its time to warp speed this program to where it should have been a long time ago. We can keep Dentonizin' this thing all we want and think like we all have for most of the last few decades, but I don't think Todd Dodge has any intentions of being part of that kind of era or football program in Denton.

Its really not just Denton, either, (where we still should have annually had 15,000 fans coming from the city at the Top of the Golden Triangle alone w/o even counting NT Exes or UNT students); but never-minding all that of the past, it is time for all our constituencies to come together now and in the future.

At some point in time and hopefully soon, we need to leave some parts of our past in the past and actually grow this football program right alongside the same kind of growth Denton and Denton County have been having and are experiencing now.

Who knows, I hope we set a record!

I do know that it won't be the first game I see in person that year. I plan to make the short drive to Norman and cheer heartily for the Mean Green!!!

Ditto. Im planning on make the first 4 games.

I will probably bring up all kinds of friends and family for the first home game and I suspect many others will follow suit

I predict...

EVERY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD ON THE PLANET

will attend the first home game of the 2007 season. Standing room only!

The only ones to miss the Todd Dodge debut will be zombies. They are so stupid.

I will say not one less set of cheeks than 32,000!

We just hired the "Pied Piper" folks. RV better go ahead and approve mo $ to keep TD. The guy was born to coach and he knows it. It is his gift and we better be ready as 118 other D1 schools will take notice quickly.

Christmas has come early for all UNT FB fans!!

Thats just it, Yes we are getting a late start in recruiting, but I garauntee that some recruits have noticed the TD hire, and will show some interest in NT. Some of them will surely sign. The new offense will take time to learn, but they will have all spring and summer to learn and study it. Besides, you don't have to learn everything in one setting. You can learn little by little while still running a "basic" offense. The cubbard isnt bare so to speak. We really dont know what we have at QB, they weren't really given a chance to show us what they can do. We do have some reciever talent, and we still have JMO. All of that can still lead to a sucessful season.

I beleive all the "home" games will be a sell out, SRO in the end zones and parking

lots- with out any type of sales promtions.

There will be MG fans traveling from all 4 corners of the world, that will continue to

support the Mean Green, win or lose. The fire has been lit!

I beleive there will be media feeding frenzie-Local, State, and National!

Get ready to rock the house! The Mean Green Nation is pure Greatness!!

Are you serious? Talk about low expectations...

TD will reveal there is a 5th corner of the world. Zombies will rise, Valkaries will fly in for pre-game, and the ghost of Hayden Fry will carry this team over OU and through the season in front of 1 BILLLLLLION fans.

UT-Austin will burn orange. literally. Mean Green nation will take over, and the Houston Texans will ride this frenzy all the way to the draft, where they will take only Mean Green players because of the Mean Green Mantra that was established.

These players will carry the Texans to a Super-Bowl victory, whilst UNT goes undefeated and gets consideration for a BCS-bid after a second straight conference title.

Greatness is an under-statement. AIm higher. Give us some due credit. laugh.gif
