UPDATE: UNT will embark on an integrated, focused fundraising campaign, representing three focus areas:

$60 million for a new stadium

$20 million for a new business building

$71 million for academic initiatives

Half of the target total goal of $160 million is allocated to capital projects- bringing in the new stadium and a business building to campus and half to transform existing academic programs and areas from "good to great" with the first step to identify academic initiatives that will make up the integrated capital campaign. Depts. have been called for case statements proposing incentives to be included in this endeavor. So far COBA $14 million; College of Music $20 million; College of Education $23 million; College of Visual Arts $14 million

Lawson & Assoc. consulting group is presently conducting external interviews through December. Results will be presented to multiple groups in the 3rd & 4th weeks in January. UNT will use the findings to see which projects have the highest probability of success and final presentation will be Feb. 6th ---per the Office of Development @ NTE BOD mtg. yesterday. Awesome! I'm glad to see the stadium and academics targeted in the same fundraising campaign. IMHO, there was no way we were going to be able to get the stadium without the other. Maybe this is a sign that depts all over UNT are starting to work better together??

Sounds good so far. Strange that those Permanent Fund thieves down in Austin are spending close to TWO HUNDRED million just to upgrade their north endzone. cool.gif

We are going to need a big(ger) boat full of money from a Big Donor. Hellsbells, folks, Oklahoma State wouldn't have what they have unless T. Boone Pickens hadn't stepped forward and we're talking about a Big 12 school that needed the, uh, Big Donor? smile.gif

I hope Rick V now has the UNT fundraising "A" list in hand because we need to take care of this (long overdue) football stadium thing in Denton so we can get back to academics.

A MUST READ AND MUST GMG.COM LINK ON A NEW THREAD?

Anyone else read in USA Today's weekend edition on its front page what Boise State's football program has done for their entire campus fundraising? There are some (academians) on our campus who will not want to read that its a successful NCAA D1-A football program (not Bottom 25) that has created this scenario and success. Can someone link that article on BSU in a whole new GMG.com thread so many more will see it and read it? Thanks in advance.

This is feasibility study folks. Depending on how it goes, they will start a campaign. We are still a looooong way away if they are just now doing a feasibility study.

Right and if they are determining which have the most probability for success, how would one even do that? Cold call NT alumni? I guess call certain donors and ask how much they'd be willing to pony up?

Thank you...that is exactly what a feasibility study is, though they do not cold call average alums. They make visits with alums with serious money and a history of giving to UNT and see what they would be willing to give if a campaign were initiated. That tells you if the project is feasible. If 1/3 of the needed money is not shown to be there in their study, the project is usually declared not feasible.

I am curious to see what the results will be.

I am heartened by the $60 million figure. I believe that the original estimate was $45M for a 32,000 seat stadium and $60M for 50,000 seats. Just reading between the lines... that tells me that we are going for the larger stadium from the gitgo. Also, knowing our history, we won't publicize any amount that we don't think that we can't meet.

Grossly exagerated.

$176 million for complete overhaul

"Several phases of the $176 million project have been underway, and some have been completed, including the rerouting of all area utilities; the renovated Carpenter-Winkel Centennial Room (9th floor of Bellmont Hall); a refurbished press box and media center (8th floor of Bellmont Hall); the upgrading of all stadium audio and video systems; the addition of a Daktronics Prostar video screen (at the time of installation the world's largest high definition scoreboard); and the relocation of 16 majestic old oak trees to other locations near the stadium."
