Meeting has been postponed...not sure what this means, though...

Told ya'll...

BTW...the new NT HC will be a candidate not already mentioned, and someone most of us have never even heard of.

Seems like people are tying to "Dodge" the answer  cool.gif

I really don't think Todd Dodge will be the head coach. Just look at the issues with the BOR & salary. Dodge would not command a 3 year salary totaling over $500k a year. It seems as if NT is preparing to pay out that kind of money. RV has something up his sleeve non of us know anything about.

BINGO! Believe me...we are all in the dark right now, and no one has any idea who the new coach will be. ph34r.gif

I am getting one of those funny feelings that most always turn out to be true and it is that the 6 headlights on the red "DODGE" in Stan R's post is a most definite sign that Todd Dodge will be signed to a 6 year contract at UNT and there will be bonuses for T.D. tied to (dramatic) increases of attendance at Fouts and even more very nice bonuses for getting Mean Green football into Top 25 rankings a la Boise State. unsure.gif

unsure.gif Wait a minute..................................another funny feeling is on the way huh.gif ........................Oh, (sorry) I think this one is saying that I have to get to the bathroom and quick. blink.gif

All signs and indicators point to the former UT QB, the former offense coordinator at UNT and the present HFC at SLC.

couple of questions come to mind. If it was Dodge, and they paid him the same amount as they were DD at 176,000/per year, what does that total?

On a 3 year deal it would total $528K, which is over the limit. Is that DD's base salary or does that include incentives? Is it justifiable to pay Dodge a salary equal to a div 1 coach with 9 years of head coaching experience?

And let me finish by saying that I'm in no way shape or form a DD fan. Just stating fact regarding what the NT head coaching position paid based on experience.

That's why I think Dodge probably will not be the head coach. And yes, I'm just spouting off with absolutely no credibility. However, I stand by my opinion. So vote Got5onIt in 2008!!! tongue.gif

I don't know if it is justifiable or not, but I am thinking that IF it is Dodge, that RV will probably put some insentives in the contract for more money. I suspect that they will have to pay him at least 175k to get him to come. He wants to get back into the college game at some point, so if he doesn't get in at UNT, there will be other schools that offer him that kind of money. Does that mean we should hire him - not neccessarily.

I have no idea how to much to pay Dodge or any other person to coach this team. If we are going to pay 175 or more, I would love to see Matthews or Carthel come here. Carthel is making 80k now at West Texas and Matthews is making right at 175k at JMU.

I do think that with either of the three, we would be in good shape.

I dont know anything, but I doubt this means that Dodge is out. I think that this is just a formality to allow RV and Dr. G to move quicker when it comes time to do a deal.

If they had to wait on BOR to sign off, we could loose out on a good coach if he gets an offer that trumps our deal.

Yeah! We've had some good coaches interested and cannot get a reply or any recognition from RV. Mark Stoops is very interested and he would bring Eric Woolford back with him. Someone needs to tell Bobby Ray and Dr. G!!! The sole decision should not fall to one man, namely RV.

IMO you're not paying anyone based on how many years they've coached. You are paying to meet the competition and what the job is worth.

You are not going to get a top-notch coach for $176K in today's market. I see where Art Briles, with only a couple of years college experience prior to being named Houston's head coach is making $550,000. Houston's attendance is little more than ours when we have a good team. SMU pays Bennett $495K and we have similar attendance.

A little more in line is San Jose State who pays their new coach $342,000. Is he worth it? Well, this year their attendance (and their wins) about doubled.

I could be wrong but I'd be a little disappointed if we didn't offer at least $250,000; maybe even $300,000. Then I would have incentives based on attendance increase, wins, season ticket sales, personal appearances, radio/tv show, conference title, etc. that could take him well past $500K. Say another $250,000 if he can make a BCS bowl. Most of those incentives would pretty much pay for themselves.

If Todd Dodge can proliferate the enthusiasm that he is currently generating, then he should be paid for what he can bring to the table. He just might be a great bargain.

The price for a 1-A head coach is going up. La Tech just fired their head coach who was making $200K per year, the lowest in the WAC. Next week should bring some info we want.... smile.gif

It's not RV's job to "Reply" or give "Recognition" of the candidates he's interviewed out to the public, although it is his job, as a single person to hire his employees. That's what we hired an AD to do. To hire and fire his own people that operate within HIS department. With that said, he's still working on hiring our new coach along with Dr. Battaille's help as well.

Completely agree. The way I see it is that each time we raise the pay increase, we set the bar, budget wise, for the future to go after the next hire when it happens, thus the overall positives of DD's increase and extension back in '04.

If Todd Dodge can proliferate the enthusiasm that he is currently generating, then he should be paid for what he can bring to the table.  He just might be a great bargain.

Again I completely agree, and will add that this opportunity today will be the only one we will get at hiring him. He will soon be out of our reach if successfull some place else.

Other than the first few days of this HFC's search with the USM assistant (and do we really know what happened with all that?); anyway, I think Rick V has handled this about as good as any AD possibly could have. He has kept it (most admirably) close to the vest with this forum and the media. I think this is a positive.

And FWIW.............I think RV has handled this about 110% better than Helwig's self-appointed one man committee did with his last hire at UNT. To bring the UNT president in on this was a very smart move (no matter how that came to be).

Seems the BOR's (and one in particular rolleyes.gif) are giving RV more flexibility than ever and I think we as NT Exes/MG fans will be the beneficiary of that.

It's got to be one helluva' tough job to be under the microscope(GoMeanGreen.com for starters) most all the time but.................maybe that's why they get paid the big bucks, too?
