Randy Shannon, Miami DC to Head Coach

Miami didn't look far for a coach to rebuild its struggling football program. Randy Shannon, the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator the last six seasons, has agreed to a four-year contract to become the school's new head coach, a source close to Shannon said Thursday night.

The source said Shannon was offered the job on Thursday and accepted later in the day. Financial terms weren't immediately known, but Shannon's annual salary is believed to be more than $1 million per season.

Rich Rodriquez, West Virginia HC to Alabama HC

Sources told ESPN's Joe Schad that Alabama extended a six-year, $12 million offer to Rodriguez, and Alabama would also pay West Virginia a $2 million buyout. The proposed deal would make Rodriguez among the top 10 highest-paid college coaches in the nation, doubling his current salary.

Correction to the Alabama hiring:

Heard today that Rich Rodriquez is STAYING AT WVU!

That sucks for 'Bama.

No, that's funny as hell about Alabama. That's what they get for making a mockery out of college football. Offering Nick Saban of the Miami Dolphins a $12 Million signing bonus plus a 10 year $56 Million contract, and getting turned down. laugh.gif

That's three top coaches (Fran, Saban, Rodriguez) in what, five years now that has basically said, "Your not worth the money?

Rodriguez to stay at West Virginia

Statement from Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore:

“I received word this afternoon that Coach Rodriguez has chosen to remain the head football coach at West Virginia. I fully respect his decision and wish him the best. I want to remind everyone of what I said at the outset of this process: my only objective is to get the best person available to lead the Alabama football program. I remain determined to bring to our program a proven head coach with impressive credentials. While I am hoping to conclude the search soon, following a timeline is not my main priority. Hiring an outstanding head coach to lead our players is the most important thing, and that will continue to be my only objective.”

I would think that 'Bama would be a prize NCAA job for football. And it sounds like the university threw enough cash at the job to attract SOMEONE OF HEAD COACHING TALENT.

Maybe they need to drop their price and talk to Dickey.

Maybe they need to drop their price and talk to Dickey.

I bet Randy Galloway has been working round the clock to make it happen.

"Uh, I want to recommend um, what's his name, Darren Dickey from North Texas State for the job. I followed his 20 year career with the North Texas Hawks and he did a wonderful job and they fired him for no reason at all. Trust me, I really do know what I'm talking about."
