Harbaugh talking to Tulane, N. Texas

UNION-TRIBUNE

December 6, 2006

The latest stop on the Jim Harbaugh national job interview tour this week was New Orleans, where the USD football coach met with Tulane officials concerning the school's vacant head coaching job, according to sources with knowledge of that search.

Next on the docket is an interview today for the vacant job at North Texas, according to sources.

Tulane is looking for a replacement for Chris Scelfo, who was fired last month after eight years there. North Texas is looking for a replacement for Darrell Dickey, who was fired last month after nine seasons in Denton.

The opening at Stanford, created by the firing of Walt Harris, has been speculated as another possible interview stop for Harbaugh, a Palo Alto High graduate.

Harbaugh, who just completed his third season with USD, is prevented by the terms of his contract from commenting on his candidacy for other jobs. His agent, Jack Bechta, also has declined comment.

Last month, Harbaugh interviewed for the then-vacant job at Iowa State.
