NEW YORK -- West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez told SportsLine.com that he met with Alabama athletic director Mal Moore on Tuesday.

Rodriguez characterized the meeting regarding the vacant Alabama job as informal saying "no offer was made." He added that a follow-up meeting had not been scheduled.

Rodriguez was here for the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame annual awards dinner.

Rodriguez reacted strongly to a weekend Internet report stating he had accepted a four-year, $20 million offer from Bama. Later Friday, he said his wife was in tears over the report and that he planned to be with West Virginia for the rest of his career.

Rodriguez is 49-24 in six seasons with the Mountaineers and has won at least a share of three of the last four Big East titles. The native West Virginian has been mentioned as a candidate at Miami as well.

Elsewhere, it is known that Texas Tech coach Mike Leach has spoke with Miami AD Paul Dee about the school's vacancy.

North Texas is getting a lot of interest. Miami quarterbacks coach Todd Berry has expressed interest in the job along with Hawaii defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville and Tulane assistant Frank Scelfo.

Dennis Erickson was the hot name mentioned at Arizona State on Tuesday. The Idaho coach reiterated his commitment to the Vandals.

Interesting to see "names" that have surfaced who are interested in the North Texas job. This list of "names' many of the MG Nation have heard of will surprise many of our critics out there, too. There will be "names" Rick Villarreal will be asked to keep confidential, too. Wouldn't we all love to be a fly on the ceiling in Rick Villarreal's office the next few days/weeks? biggrin.gif

From past (and recent) very positive statements from Hayden Fry concerning UNT, he would tell some of those "confidentials" (and non-confidentials) how good a job the UNT HFC's job can be if handled the right way. He is a living testimony to that himself even in the era (when Denton and NT were much smaller) when Coach Fry was our main man at UNT.

I still defer to the signature statement below: smile.gif

Crap, Glanville is finally in the mix. He is my favorite. He is the closest thing to DeLoach out there that is available and has a renewed passion for the college game. He has turned around the Rainbow's Defense and I bet that he could make our back into a top 10 one.
