Your right I somehow skipped those 2 lines , legendary names. While I would LOVE Harbaugh to come here , I can see it only happen for 1 reason.... A step closer to the Michigan job.

If he comes here and has success early I can easily see, a Michigan or other big time schools , come to town and start throwing the MILLIONS at him.. more than NT could perhaps ever match... But oh well if we can kick ass for even 2 short years , that would be better than 2 piss poor years with someone else.

Fry was here about 5 years and then went to a Big 10 school. PMG still talks as if he just left here. I will take that 4 or 5 years. Dodge would do the same if a Big 12 school came calling.

Yes , I think it would will take 4-5 years to build a constant top #25 team here.

You actually read what PMG writes ?? I can't take it laugh.gif

Dodge,Harbaugh, you, me .. anyone would leave here for the right price , something Big 12 , SEC , etc. can make happen.

"It could be as big as you can think it could be." That's the right kind of thinking.

This guy would have instant credibility with recruits. 15 seasons in the NFL.

Not exactly what I had in mind in terms of direction for this hiring decision, but I think I'd have to give this one a vote of confidence.

"He won't stay there long for sure!" rolleyes.gif

That comment will be made by the following:

(1) Those who will be jealous of our hire

(2) Those who will be pissed off that we were able to hire "him" in the first place (whoever "him" is) smile.gif

(3) Recruiters will be pissed that they keep hearing the name NORTH TEXAS on their recruiting trail and will make the old "he won't be there long" comments in their negative recruiting approach. rolleyes.gif

FWIW, fellow NT Exes/MG fans, outside of about 10 Super NCAA D1-A HFC's jobs, which school out there is really not a steppingstone? Think about it.

Anyone notice that even Texas Tech's Leach has more than likely applied for the Miami job (although the media says that he "inquired" about the 'Canes job)? laugh.gif

Yes, Hayden Fry made impressions on many of us on this board in a complete different era because there were hardly any games we played with him as the Mean Green HFC where we thought we'd lose the game (although he lost his share). It's much more fun to follow that kind of program than the other kind of programs out there. smile.gif

Yes, as I have agreed with Plum before, I have no problem with a coach viewing us as a stepping stone, infact I think that should be a sellling point.

You will be playing in arguably the worst D1 conf.

You are the only D1 Public School in the Metroplex.

You have some of the best HS football in the country in yourt back yard.

You have a new Athletic Center and a new Stadium looming.

You have over 200,000 alums within a 45 min drive.

I mean really, if you have a motivated coach should we ever lose a local recruit to our back water belt brothers?

Its not like you are trying to sell someone on the virtues of Monroe LA, this is a good job that you can win at.

Get in here, get to 9 or 10 wins, win an OOC game here or there, go to bowl games, get to the top 25 and then move on to a BCS school. Then we get to have all this fun again in 5 years.

And really there are only a handful of HC jobs that aren't stepping stones.

Hellsbells, NT03, I look forward to the day when I don't feel compelled to write those long epistles no matter whose reading them; although I do have a little fun making letters get real big in a sentence and coloring inside the lines of those letters. rolleyes.gif

BUT.........................a good "upwardly bound toward Top 25" football program at our alma mater will probably cause me to get real brief with future posts. tongue.gif

A fellow alum emailed me about my below signature asking me what I mean't with us having the "best" job in the DFW Metroplex. Well....IMHO, we do have the best "down the road" HFC's job in the DFW Metroplex because of our enormous constituency upside. And a constituency of which we all know is still virtually untapped to get on board an NCAA D1-A football program because of what we've had of late (at a lower profile) and the present stadium we have.

TCU has had the best HFC's job with their Coach Fran and then Coach Gary Patterson, but even the Horned Frog faithful know their limitations are much more defined as a "non SWC" football program than when they had a better and more "theoretical" chance of becoming a national championship type program when they were in bed with the Longhorns and Aggies (among all their other former SWC brethren). As many of you have said (of which I do read all of your "much shorter" posts and I paraphrase you): "the break-up of the SWC was nothing but a positive for UNT."

With a new bonafide "no corners cut" NCAA D1-A football stadium in Denton, Texas, America( as Matt Simon most always called Denton), we will all but be on equal footing with any non BCS school not only in Texas, but also in, uh, Idaho, where a former conference foe of ours is now in the BCS Championship Series). blink.gif

The only way for the North Texas job to be a stepping stone job is if the coach is successful. Unsuccessful coaches are rarely hired away.

If Harbaugh, or whoever, is successful, then North Texas is successful.

And wouldn't it be fun to have a former all-pro, first round draft choice, 10 year NFL, successful HEAD COACH coach at North Texas.
