Currently we are ranked tied for 94 in three pointers attempted. Thats not very high for a three point shooting team to me. For ya'll who think we shoot too many I would love to hear some suggestions of what offense we could run. I was thinking we should not dribble at all. Just pass the ball up the court and then around to each other. Maybe this will cut down on about 7 or 8 turnovers.

By my count 334 schools play D1 basketball(my count may be a bit off, but I think I am close). If that's true #94 would put us in the top 28% of the country in 3 pointers attempted. That is pretty high.

Attempts are great, but what really puts points on the board are 3 pointers made. wink.gif

Where do we rank in 3 pointers made compared to 3 pointers attempted?

According to the Ken Pomeroy web site NT is shooting 43.2% from beyond the arc. That puts NT at #18 in the nation out of 334 Div I teams.

Allow me to put 43.2% into a green perspective. Many of us remember George King (1993-96). Coach Jankovich said King's shooting form was so nearly perfect that he wanted to use King in a "How to Shoot" video. King is the all-time NT career 3-point percentage leader with 43.1% So far this season NT has the equivalent of a whole team of George Kings shooting 3-point shooters.

My belief is a good team must score from both the inside and the outside. Also, the way the defense is playing has a big effect on how many 3-pointers are attempted.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm replying to here, but I'll give a shot anyways. 3 pointers are great when a good shooter has a good look. Not so great when guys pull up 4 feet behind the line and jack it up 8 seconds into the shot clock. Also, even if you are a great 3 point shooter, it is important to sometimes drive the basket to score, dish, whatever. If you make yourself one dimensional you are easy to defend. That is why I wish Calvin would drive more. He really has a good ability of beating his guy and finishing around the rim, but he rarely does it. He is an excellent leaper, and while 3 pointers are great for momentum, driving and dunking in someones face is even more so. After you beat your guy off the dribble a couple of times, he has no choice but to play a little bit off to defend against penetration, which opens up the outside shots more.

Sorry, got on a bit of a soap box.
