Sometimes I think we get too caught up in facilities talk when we discuss what could bring more people to the games. I am certainly one who believes the facilities need something, but I am not one on the "build a whole new stadium" band wagon.

Consider...

If you go to another school's games, what is it like outside the stadium? For instance at OU and Texas, you're within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, and sometimes the student union. We don't have anything like that near Fouts.

Does anyone know if those in position have considered retail and restaurants being built closer to Fouts? I mean, they just had someone tear down an old, beloved buildings on the north side of the campus to put in retail. That's easy to get to when you're on that part of the campus.

But, before and after games, you're only pre- and post-game options are tailgating in the parking lot. While that's fun, many schools' fans have more options. And, those who bring families probably don't want to have their kids around alcohol.

I write all of this having no idea what land we own around Fouts. But, it's just something else to think about. Anyone?

Eventually, a strip of the golf course land across from Fouts and bordering the I-35E service road between Bonnie Brae and the Radisson will be developed. It is masterplanned as commerical (restaurants, shops, etc.) and next door to the site for the new stadium.

Also they are turning the Razor Ranch property at 380/I-35 into a mixed use resturant/high end retail/office development It just the other side of Presby hospital and just a stones throw from Fouts and the new stadium.
