DENTON (11/30/06) – The North Texas Women’s Tennis Head Coach Sujay Lama announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period. Narinne Kazarova (Plano, TX), Amy Joubert (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa), and Madura Ranganathan (Coimbatore, India) will join the Mean Green program in 2007-08.

“We are very excited about this dynamic group, and we are looking forward to working with them and helping them develop their game,” said Lama. “These young ladies not only have tremendous potential as players but they are also great people looking forward to building North Texas into one of the premier tennis programs in the country.”

Kazarova is listed as the 10th rated prospect in the state of Texas by tennisrecruiting.net and has been ranked as high as No. 90 nationally. She has finished third three consecutive years at 4A State Championships. She went undefeated in her districts all four years of high school and earned district MVP as a junior.

“Narinne is a powerful player and a great athlete,” said Lama. “Her serve and forehand are major weapons. She is a very aggressive player with a huge upside to her game. We recruited Texas very hard, and we are ecstatic that we landed a top ten player from the state.”

Joubert is ranked No. 4 in singles and No. 1 in doubles in South Africa in the current South African U18 Girls rankings. She has been ranked in the top ten in her country in all age groups (14’s,16’s 18’s) and was selected to represent South Africa in the A team International Championships of the World and the Junior African Championships as well as in International tournaments in Europe.

“Amy has an all court game but likes to strike first and dictate,” said Lama. “She is a competitor and will make an impact in singles and doubles right away. South Africa has a great history and tradition for tennis and we are happy she will be able to share that with us in Denton.”

Ranganathan is one of the most decorated tennis players to sign with North Texas. She has been ranked as high as No. 1 in singles in India in U18 Girl’s rankings and made the finals of clay court nationals and semis finals of hard court nationals. She has been a member of the Indian Fed Cup Junior Team as well as the International Federation Asian Team that toured Europe. Her highest world ranking (ITF Juniors) was 98 and currently holds a WTA singles ranking of No. 862 and a doubles ranking of No. 746.

“Madura brings tremendous experience to our team,” said Lama. “She has been exposed to a very high level of tennis and has the hunger to be an outstanding collegiate player. Her presence will bring instant credibility to our program.”

Very nice class so far. Next thing is to get them into school.

The Frisco girl is an excellent signing locally.

As for the 2 foreign players that is what's need they will probably step-in and play line 1-2. WTA experience and ITF juniors. Madura should be better than Sandyha Kanury a few years ago.

Any information on the girl from Peru??

Very promising future if it all holds together.
