UT assistant considered for North Texas job

Texas tight ends coach Bruce Chambers has emerged as a candidate for North Texas' head coaching job.

The Mean Green are in search of a replacement for Darrell Dickey, who was fired earlier this month after nine seasons in Denton.

Chambers has spent the past nine seasons as an assistant coach at Texas under Mack Brown. He has been the recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach the past two seasons.

Chambers has connections with North Texas, where he played wide receiver, ran track and earned his degree in 1982. His only head coaching experience came at Dallas Carter High School from 1996-97, where he also served as the school's athletics director.

North Texas officials did not return email or phone messages seeking comment.

Chambers was on the recruiting trail Monday and unavailable for comment, a UT spokesman said.
