UNT routed in Dickey's farewellTHE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Chart: Game statisticsMONROE, La. -- Darrell Dickey's tenure as North Texas coach came to a grinding halt.

Calvin Dawson rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries as Louisiana-Monroe shut down North Texas in a 23-3 victory Saturday night at Malone Stadium.

The game was the last at North Texas for Dickey, who was fired earlier this month after nine years at the school. The game was also the last at North Texas for Johnny Quinn, who finished his college career by catching at least one pass in every game he played in.

Quinn's streak of 47 consecutive games with at least one reception is the third-longest active streak in the nation. Quinn also concluded his career as the Mean Green's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards.

Louisiana-Monroe (3-8, 2-4 in Sun Belt) racked up 409 yards of total offense, with 216 yards coming on the ground.

Kinsmon Lancaster completed 12 of 19 passes for 193 yards with no interceptions for the Warhawks.

Louisiana-Monroe's defense held North Texas (3-9, 2-5) to only 137 yards of total offense, which was the Mean Green's lowest offensive output since gaining 89 yards against Tulsa on Sept. 16. UNT had only seven first downs.

UNT quarterback Matt Phillips completed 9 of 18 passes for 66 yards and was intercepted twice.

North Texas had only 74 yards rushing.

The Mean Green went three-and-out on its first two possessions of the game while the Warhawks went 60 yards on five plays to score on a 1-yard run by Dawson.

After a Louisiana-Monroe field goal, North Texas settled for Denis Hopovac's 37-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 10-3 with 2:58 to play in the first half.

Trailing 16-3 to open the fourth quarter, Quinn set up UNT nicely with a 35-yard punt return to Louisiana-Monroe's 35. But the drive ended when Phillips was intercepted in the end zone.
