If the New Orleans Bowl happens to match SMU vs. Middle Tennessee, who would you support--SMU and Phil Bennett who were willing to schedule us this year (and who we beat) and is a Texas team or Middle Tennessee (or maybe Troy), the SunBelt representative?

I'd root against SMU if they were playing O.J. Simpson and 21 of his clones.

I root for the Sun Belt rep in the Nawlins Bowl, because our conference needs to win it more often than once.

Man it's a crime to think UNT could have played the hated Mustangs in a bowl game.

Either saw on TV or read somewhere that Conference USA is under contract to send their 5th place team to meet the Sun Belt Conference Champion in the New Orleans Bowl. Sad when you think how many of the bowl games the Sun Belt has won.

if by some off chance Rice ends up in the New Orleans Bowl by losing to SMU this weekend, I'll be rooting for Rice. they havent been to a bowl in 45 years- something we can all identify with- and I think it would be neat thing for them.

If it's anyone else, I'll root for the Sun Belt champ- even if its MTSU.

From the CUSA Board:

C-USA selection process

The postseason pecking order for C-USA is clear for both the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and GMAC Bowl, but it gets a little fuzzy after that.

The Autozone Liberty Bowl has first choice, and it does not have to take the C-USA champion. In other words, the winner of the Dec. 1st championship game isn't necessarily packing its bags for Memphis if bowl officials and sponsors aren't giddy about the champ.

The GMAC Bowl gets second choice, but it can potentially lock that up prior to the championship game if the Liberty Bowl releases that team.

Beyond that, the selection process does not have a pecking order, meaning heavy politicking will be involved between school administrators, C-USA officials, and the league's three other bowls: the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth; the PapaJohns.com Bowl in Birmingham; and the New Orleans Bowl.

In such cases, it is typically in the best interest of the conference to ensure that its bowl partners have interesting match-ups and well-attended games. That heavily favors schools with good attendance numbers and a reputation for traveling well.

No question that I'd be rooting for the SBC rep. regardless of who they are playing.

As to SMU, it would be sooooo sweeeeet if they go to the NO Bowl and lose.

Of course, it would be sweet if they lost to anyone.

It's always a great day for me in college football when SMU AND ND lose.

That eliminates SMUt's chances. laugh.gif
