He's about to get a .5 million 'severence package' thanks to the UNT athletic department despite going under .500 for 9 years. He needs to pipe down and buy a condo in Florida.

Its not a lump sum, a previous article said he would be paid out in regular installments over the next two years.

1. does DD remain solely responsible for his current record when he had no input on all the OOC "money games" or does RV hold the bag on this too??

As we know mid-major teams stand little to no chance of defeating BCS schools.

RV could have scheduled less BCS teams and more mid-majors with a few D-1AA teams thrown in during the DD era.....

Then why did DD not take hold of the oppurtunity to beat the easier OOC scheduled games (Tulsa, FAU the first time, Troy in 2001, Akron, etc)?

A DD coached team defated a BCS school. He beat TT. So what's the rest of the excuse?

DD makes some legitimate points in his farewell.

Was RV under "higher" authority to schedule these games or was this done on his own??

As I posted earlier, he coached 15 money games, not 30. As for RV scheduling less BCS games, you do realize our "Strength of Schedule" the past 4 seasons, including 2006(113th) averages out to 109th, right? So who should we thank for that?

I'll give you a hint: It wasn't Alfred Hurley!

ffr--

that is my point....."some" of the blame for DD's record has to, ultimately, be with the ADs for scheduling either 15 money games, as you say, or 30 according to DD.

anyway, perhaps the next coach will face less of a "ball busting" BCS schedule and have a greater mix of mid-major schools with a couple of D-1AA games thrown in.

i am not personally opposed to playing, at least, one D-1AA school per year like many other D-1A schools including BCS schools do. Evidently this philosophy does not hurt the BCS schools reputations and will not hurt UNT's reputation.

We have enough weak programs on the schedule by virtue of being in I-A's weakest conference. The risk of losing to a I-AA program is too great, and it's an unpleasant reminder of the days we were in I-AA.

There is no point to play a 1-AA school. If we win none cares but if we loose it will damage our rep even more. Also no one will show up to se us play Grambling, so there is no profit incentive. If we do pull together a good team and a good season it will hurt even more trying to get respect.

If there is going to be blame for the " unsure.gif killer unsure.gif " OOC, then there needs to be thanks to the same people for the Sun Belt (which gave us the W's).
