Rice's Graham: Dodge can do it

I was chatting with first-year Rice coach Todd Graham for a story that will run later this week and asked if he thought Southlake Carroll's Todd Dodge would be a good hire for North Texas.

"I would have all the confidence in the world in Coach Dodge," said Graham, who is five years removed from being Allen's head coach. "He's one of the best coaches around and a great offensive mind. I don't think he'd have any problem."

Graham said recruiting is the biggest concern in hiring a coach straight out of high school. But he said Dodge, who was UNT's offensive coordinator in 1992-93, understands the recruiting process because of his previous college experience. Dodge turned down Graham's offer to become Rice's offensive coordinator last winter.

I just want to say on the record that this is high praise in my book. To me, Todd Graham is the prototype for what we desparately need at UNT. A young, energetic, positive leader that can recruit. People want to give Steve Kraigthorpe all the credit for the turnaround at Tulsa but let me tell you Graham was the one who really made it happen. He's doing the exact same thing at Rice now.

His assessment of Coach Dodge carries a lot of weight in my opinion.

I just can't find anything wrong with hiring TD at this point.  Good find Harry.

He's an exciting up and coming young coach that we'd be lucky to hang onto for a few seasons before he moves further up. I just don't see him crashing and burning at NT like some think he would because he currently coaches HS.
