Long time lurker, first time poster.

I like this coach for consideration.

* Former starting QB. Pac 10.

* Former Offensive Coordinator. Pac 10.

* Current Co-Defensive Coordinator. Big 12

* Current Special Teams Coach. Big 12.

* Part of many 10 and more win seasons and a natioanl championship ring.

* Supposed to be a strong recruiter. Persuasive speaker. Motivational speaker.

* Knows the state of Texas, recruiting contacts, media contacts.

* Wants to be a Head Coach.

* Early 50's in age. Not too old, not too young.

* Popular with his players, but not because he is "nice" but due to his fiery intensity.

* Has coached many top athletes all the way to the NFL (including some who barely got recruited). "Coaches kids up" as the saying goes.

The way I understood the article, the Prez can authorize a contract for $500k or less. That is contract value not yearly salary. So if you pay the HC $200k a year, the contract can only be for 2 years or the BOR will have to approve it as well.

---After hiring the head, there needs to be money left to hire good assistants. An expensive head with poor assistants would be a bad situation. It is not all about who the head coach is.

This is why I favor hiring a current head coach, they can bring in assistants they already know they can work with along to NT. Either Dodge or WTA$M's head coach.

a good head coach wanting to come to unt is not going to come here if he cannot bring in the people he wants and if they cannot be paid what he thinks they deserve.

Don't make the mistake that Bama made. They are having to raise up their coach. It is always better to bring up a head coach from a smaller school or lower division. There are many out there. Find someone who was able to turn a losing program around and gain crowd support. I recommend someone who wears boots and can be a Texan. Ole Miss tried to raise up a Cajun and it is taking a while. He will NEVER fit the mold. ULM made the mistake of hiring someone that is 1-A experienced and he does not fit the La mode. Nice guy, but will never inspire the home folks. RV has ties to USM and should have contact with some good 1-AA coaches who finished there. LSU fans are struggling with their Michigan coach. Again, nice guy, but does not fit the program. Never will ...........unless he takes a speech class and learns to say football, instead of futbahl.

Didn't say it couldn't work, but it usually takes a longer time and often never works. At UNT .......needs a miracle worker. No money. No fans. AD with no experience and must be hard to work with. Not a good climate for the New Guy on the Block. Someone who has been through the test of fire would work better. Someone with a bundle of energy and a bright smile and lots of PR. Saban would not work, nor Spurrier. LOL! Not to say that Jimbo Fisher would not be a hit, as he brings instant respect. Or Stacy Searles of LSU/Auburn. Don't know if Granville would have the energy. Jay Thomas at Nicholls would be a great choice. Even tho Mumme has not had succes at NMSU.....I think he would be a good fit. (NMSU is the hardest job....ever. Been there tried that.) Here's hoping that UNT will find the right guy!

NT doesn't need a miracle worker. We simply need a good football coach that believes in himself and his abilities to win games, not just manage them.

No Money? Didn't we just buy out a $565K contract to hire someone else?

No fans? I could have sworn that 12-15,000 of these people below were able to drive 10 hours away for a week night bowl game, 4 years in a row?

The AD is hard to work with? Really? What bull$hit do you base that on?

North Texas isn't a good climate for the New Guy? Again, based on what?
