Im actually saddened by the news in some way....

If you really think about it Dickey has done more for this program than any other coach in UNT history....You should definately be appaluded for that....

Dickey you lost your job, because you have terrible assistant coaches, terrible recent recruiting classes, lost the best players in UNT history recently, and had a bunch of jerks force you out of your office tenure....

RV, did not want to make this decision, he does not want to find time to look for your replacement and really didnt want to deal with this...He wasnt happy when he got interviewed today...

Well good luck to you coach dickey, you and coach fry were my favorite coaches, when I approached you about the SMU game this year, I asked you to promise me we would win, you kept your promise. wink.gif

Thanks for a great memorable run, you gave me many great games to watch on T.V. and in person....Thanks alot and you will be successful where ever you go....

Just a quick follow-up

Anybody who discredits this post and says that Dickey was not successful at NT is a complete jack-ass....

He did alot in the conference we played in, we enjoyed greatly the opportunity to beat up on SBC opponents, Great Bowl Games, and also great players develop right before our eyes. He helped attract a great pool of talent....but in college football that talent goes on to better things...

I told my brother who is an UT alum that Dickey got fired, he was saddened saying that was the best coach UNT has ever had since Hayden Fry....and also NT saw alot of success from him. He also went on to say that alot of coaches have alot of respect for him, I think that is why some media outlets are second-guessing the AD on this news.

My girlfriend, an NT alum, said it best this evening, I hope who ever they get to replace him will take us as far as we went with the bowl games and such.....

She doesnt care too much for football but even she got shocked and said she felt sorry for him.

I always want whats best for my Mean Green, but I hope we do go on to bigger and brighter pastures....

Dito.

We are not that far removed from the first bowl game in 40 years, 4 straight bowl games, and a moment in the sun...of sorts. While the last 2 seasons have been brutal for DD, he also brought this program to the spotlight for a few years. He moved NT up the food chain a bit.

UNT is not part of the BCS conference. We never had a shot at a National Championship even if we were to go undefeated. Any expectations higher then what we got over the last 6 years was wishful thinking.

What I hope for in a new head coach is to further move NT up that food chain, maybe to a better conference (or bring more respect to this one), to more bowl options, and a little more time in the national spotlight.

From the same guy that called RV a puppet for not looking for a new coach a week ago? blink.gif

I love how you post your thoughts and then follow that up with a post that says if anyone disagrees or discredits your post is a jack-ass. Considering your contradictory posts, seems like the pot calling the kettle black. ph34r.gif

Yeah, agreed. Seems like a large percentage of this board had declared repeatedly what a failure Dickey was, how the SBC titles meant nothing, how the whole 9 years were a step back, etc., and now seem to be changing their tune. Let's just chalk it up to emotion in the light of recent losses that were tough to swallow.

I believe that the majority of us appreciate the SBC titles, the bowls, and the winning seasons, but this is a "what have you done for me lately business".

A 4-16 record and bad recruiting over the last few years is not getting it done. Try failing at your job for two years and then telling your boss that you were good for seven years before that.

rolleyes.gif If you read that article you will find that I am furious over the stadium debacle that has occured at NT. I was sarcastic in saying that RV is not looking for another coach at that time, to distract him from the stadium issue.

As far as RV, I believe he is a puppet more than ever...Everyone I talked to says that the new prez was the one who had the final say in the Dickey matter, and had enough of the losing. I do see the new Prez in a new light and respect her optimism to looking for bigger and brighter things for our future at NT. I believe that she will stay for the long haul here at NT...

While we have come to known RV has applied for several lower tier AD jobs only to get turned down.

Well, considering that Dr. Bataille's position puts her above RV, I'd say that it makes sense that she had something to do with the hire. You've got to remember that RV is not the biggest gun on campus. So whenever he needs to take care of something, he goes to people who can help him get it done. Dr. Pohl lost too much faculty support with the tenure issue, and I don't think he was on good terms with Lee Jackson.

Dr. Bataille, however, is still in her "honeymoon" phase with UNT - the faculty appreciate her commitment to academics and Lee Jackson hand-picked her, so she's got a lot going for her. I wouldn't say it's so much RV being a puppet as being politically smart.

As a side note, keep in mind that sarcasm is only effective if people understand you're being sarcastic...
