I would believe Miami before any of those.

LSU Texas OU etc are all the recipients of massive funding and fan support. Unfortunately, UNT is not even 1/10th of that.

Miami on the other hand, was a non-existent player, and then emerged almost out of nowhere in 1981 (or was that 82 when they beat Nebraska?). Somehow / someway, they forced themsleves on teh scene without a large alumni / fan support and created a dynasty. I guess 1980 SMU would be the closest thing, minus South Beach.

I agree with Texas Stranger....Louisville. I can remember when we beat them more often than they beat us and look at them now. A new stadium and a new coach worked for them.

Then again, Boise State wouldn't be bad either. We already have turf in our school colors.

We are what we are.

Right now this is a mediocre team in a mediocre and unrespected conference.

What to aspire to??? In the short term: a recognized team. In the long term: a respected team in a respected conference. Make it to the top 50 in football. The best we have done even in our recent best years is top 75.

We don't want to be any of those schools. We are NORTH TEXAS. Period.

We would like to get our football program to a higher level of recognition, sure. Louisville is a great example except for the BCS part. Not that we "couldn't" ever do that, but the logistics are impossible...... It's not like they're going to make it the Big XIII.

TCU is probably the most appropriate model.

Our fan support would be better than TCU's if we were as successful as they have been in recent years. Even when they were in the top 15 or so, they still weren't drawing like they should have. Perhaps because TCU is a relatively small, private school. If we ever had that kind of success, you wouldn't be able to get a ticket to a MG game.

Louisville. Undoubtadley the best model from a small conference to the big time, similar situation to us in the past, and an old MVC member, to boot (in fact, they were around for our conference championships in 1958 & 1959, 1966 & 1967 and 1973, along with Tulsa, Cincy, Memphis, NMSU and Houston.) Now we just need the owners of Pizza Hut or Inn down in Addison to pitch in for the stadium.
