....think he might make a good coach at UNT? Iowa State is a tough place to coach (only one coach has left there with a winning record since 1919) yet McCarney has taken the Cyclones to five bowl games in the last six seasons and twice had them one game away from winning the Big 12 North Division.

What do you think?

He was an assiatant at Iowa under Hayden Fry from 1979-1989. He also coached under Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin.

His coaching record is similar to DD in that it was bad then pretty good followed by bad again:

Year Record

1995 3-8

1996 2-9

1997 1-10

1998 3-8

1999 4-7

2000 9-3

2001 7-5

2002 2-10

2004 7-5

2005 7-5

2006 3-7

12 Years 55-84

Thanks, GoMeanGreen.

Anybody? McCarney?

I would be interested in him. He's recruited several athletes from Texas including their starting QB Drew Tate.

That program never recovered when Seneca Wallace & Ennis Haywood left. Just another showing of why recruiting effectively while you're successfull is so important. Of course, coaches can't predict when players just don't turn out how they expect.

for the Hayden Fry lovers.

McCarney, 52, coached at Iowa for 13 seasons (1977-89), including 11 years under Hayden Fry, before becoming the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin under Barry Alvarez in 1990.

so we have a NT connection. could this be a possible hire?
