Football: Chased down

DRC/Gary Payne

North Texas wide receiver Johnny Quinn (81) runs the ball for a touchdown against Louisiana Tech in the second quarter on Saturday at Fouts Field. Quinn broke the school record for career receiving yards with this catch. North Texas wide receiver Johnny Quinn likened the move head coach Darrell Dickey made in the first quarter of the Mean Green's game against Louisiana Tech on Saturday to cleaning house. UNT was well on its way to going without an offensive touchdown in the first quarter for the 21st straight game when Dickey pulled his entire starting offense in favor of a group of backups he had been working with after practice throughout the week. The group sparked UNT's best offensive outing of the season, one that went to waste when the Mean Green coughed up a 10-point, second-half lead and lost 34-31 at Fouts Field in front of a crowd of 11,103. UNT (2-7) scored 31 straight points after falling behind 21-0 late in the first quarter. The Mean Green's "Green Team" was on the field for the first 17 points in the rally against Tech (3-6).

So why take them out? Why not reward those wonderful guys with continued playing time. Another reason I'm convinced that DD doesn't know how to win. It was so evident that the starting team has quit on Darryl, but when given an opportunity, the "Greens" were more than up to the task. I feel so bad for the players. mad.gif
