Watching the Ryan & WF Rider game last night got me thinking......

RF went to WF Rider where is was a KING for awhile. While WF Rider is not exactly a Southlake Carrol or Highland Park they usually have 2 or 3 D-I recruits a year. Baylor's new starting QB is from there. What Im getting at is that I cant remember any WF Rider player ever signing with NT. Im sure there may have been a few over the past 10yrs or so.. but I cant think of any recently. I dont care if RF has the DFW area or OK or whatever... If he cant even get a prospect from his own alma mater , well thats just PATHETIC. Can anyone recall someone from Rider signing w/ NT ??

Please go RF .. PLEASE!!!! We are about to play a team that gives up 463+ yds a game what are the odds we cant even get 300yds ??? tongue.gif

You know, I think it is hard for UNT to recruit in this area because if you are a true D1 recruit, where would that has no connections to UNT like to go? If you come to UNT, you get to play in the Belt, but even if you go to Baylor or TCU, heck even SMU, you at least get to play in a conference that the rest of the nation somewhat repects.

---Personally it is more an issue that our opponents are not Texas or regional teams. CUSA is not a lot beter than Belt nor is the WAC if you toss out Boise. Kids like to play against a few people they know for bragging purposes.

--Respect... people respect SMU???. Not if they know the history of the place the past 20+ years. The Big-12 is the name conference in the area obviouslly and TCU's conf is pretty good as well, but the only advantage of CUSAover the Belt is "local" opponents. They really aren't much better now that Lousiville and some others are out of it.

Ask pretty much anyone in the country which conf they think is better between the WAC and the Belt, or the Conf USA and the Belt, and I'd be willing to bet you don't get a whole of Belt answers. Yes I realize SMU is not that good now, but people respect SMU as a whole a lot more than they do UNT based on their history.

You can make this case about being in the Belt no matter what the area is. Only advantage that I can think of is telling a player that they can come in ,start right away and be an impact player. I dont think too many Big XII coaches , if any , can truthfully say that to a recruit. ( Yet Im sure they do! )

You are definately right about the coming in and starting issue. It is probably a toss up. You look up there at Arkansas - they are set at QB for the next 3 years at least barring two major injuries, and Kodi Burns still says he wants to sign there, so you never know what kids like.
