Meager to start against La. Tech

Sophomore quarterback Daniel Meager will start for UNT in its game against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, head coach Darrell Dickey said Wednesday.

Meager has started the Mean Green’s last two games, but was knocked out of Saturday’s loss to Troy with what was thought to be a concussion.

UNT’s medical staff now believes the blurry vision Meager experienced during the game was not due to a concussion. The former Richardson Pearce standout has thrown for 288 yards in six games this season.

Now it's starting to make sense. I would also run around like a chicken with his head cut off if I was lined up against a twenty-two man defense every week. No wonder he looks so confused back there.

That is scary, our own medical staff doesn't know what a concussion is or believes it is not. Hope Meager doesn't get hit in the head, I would sit him and get a second opinion on the concussion. Better safe that sorry.

Well, it's sometimes hard to diagnose a concussion, and given Meager's history, I'm not surprised the staff would jump to that conclusion. In any case, I'm glad they pulled him - better safe than sorry. It's still a bit worrisome that he had the dizziness though. My thought is that they should bench him if they can't figure out why he got dizzy.

if it wasn't due to a concussion, what else will give you blurry vision???

Dizziness, nausea, and blurred vision. Could be:

Vertigo (ruined Nick Esasky's career)

Whiplash (impact trauma from a hard hit... usually takes a few weeks/months to really hit)

Fibromyalgia (first develops in sufferers starting around age 20, occasionally triggered by physical trauma)

That's just the general stuff. The symptoms he seems to have could be caused by everything from Multiple Sclerosis to Lyme Disease to Vulvodynia. Somehow, I doubt it's any of those. But the three above are all possibilities, and any or all of them could be aggravated or caused by the same things that would lead trainers to suspect a concussion.

Hey now, back of my boys on the sports medicine staff. I'd bet my mortgage payment that a second opinion was obtained. There's only so much you can do on the sidelines. Given his history, it was the right call to err on the side of caution.

This is going to be a breakout game for this team. Our underated quarterback is going to show everyone how good he is. The coaches have probably worked very hard on our gameplan this week, and we should have some new wrinkles to throw at La Tech. I see Meager going 14-20 for 265 yards and two touchdowns, no ints. J-mo should have about 190 yards on top of this for 3 more touchdowns behind our maturing offensive line. Our defense will also hold them to about 200 yards total offense......

Hold on, I need to refill my drink. "Darling, what did you do with my crown?"

Ok. Our defense will also hold them to about 200 yards total offense, and a touchdown and field goal. It is going to be the most exciting game at Fouts field in recent memory, because of the way we are finally going to open up our high powered offense.

Man am I looking forward to this game.
