Dickey to coach UNT against Troy

Coach on rebound after heart attack

North Texas head coach Darrell Dickey will be back on the sideline for the first time since he suffered a heart attack on Oct. 13 when the Mean Green travel to Troy on Saturday.

Dickey made the decision after consulting with his doctors.

“I told them [uNT’s players] that they need to treat each game and each practice like it is a special gift and they are blessed being able to pay the game that they love,” Dickey said. “I never thought in a million years that I wouldn’t be able to be with my team because of a medical situation, and it was taken away from me just like that.”

Dickey had a stent placed in his heart during surgery following his heart attack.

He spent only a few minutes at practice twice in the week following his heart attack, but was at practice on nearly a fulltime basis this past week.

UNT has lost four of its last five games and will look to break out of that slide against Troy, which ended the Mean Green’s 26-game Sun Belt Conference winning streak last season.
