I was definately loving life on saturday with the win over Auburn.  Gus Mahlzan likes to keep the Defense honest for sure (dd could learn from that).  Also shows you what happens when a team adds an OC with some creativity.

And Mahlzan came from HS a year ago if you remember? That play is Mahlzan's version of the "Fumblerooskie" and is called "Woody". It went 28 yards setting up a td 3 plays later extending the 4-1 Razorbacks lead to 24-10 over 2nd ranked Auburn. Mahlzan has been getting a lot of attention for his creativity he brought to UA in his first season, which by the way is being run by his true freshman QB he brought with him. I had wondered how that deal was going to play out after all the hoopla over Mustain but now it's making Houston Nutt look like a genius as the hogs are now looking for a championship.

Maybe to the national media. Locally it was well known that Nutt did not want to hire Gus, and once the Springdale players started backing off their committments he was willing to hire him as QB coach but the AD forced him to hire him as offensive coordinator. Nothing cooler than looking like a genius when what you fought against turns out to be golden. tongue.gif

Rick - all of us Hog fans to some degree were wondering how this would work out. I think in the end, Mahlzan is great at using his strengths and thats why 24 our of the last 26 plays last week were running plays. He also is very good at deciding when to use trick plays, like he ran in the Alabama game. He is pretty much an offensive genius in relation to his style of offense, though I think he will have to change some of his Springdale stuff just as Meyer at Florida has had to change some of his stuff also. There is definately a fresh air in Hog land at his hiring, but as Arkstfan said, he was forced to hire him.

That's okay, Frank Broyles was made to hire an OC also, and that eventually propelled him to being the coach he was, if I am not mistaken (I could be).

I've looked at this play over and over.  Did the quaterback take the snap ?  Or was the ball snapped or really handed to the running back ?

The ball was snapped to Mustain and then handed to Fish.
