NT should do the same thing NOW and give the fans some relief and hope for the future. Name Kenny Evans as interim head coach since he's already assistant head coach. Reassign DD and RF to other duties for the remainder of their contracts or until they get hired elsewhere. Could they screw up the ticket office any worse?

McNeese replaces Tate as head football coach

October 3, 2006

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) -- Tommy Tate has been removed as the head football coach at McNeese State and offensive coordinator Matt Viator will take over the program on an interim basis, the school announced Tuesday.

"I regret that this has happened during the course of a season," university president Robert Hebert said. "But I believe it is in the best interest of our program."

The Cowboys got off to a 1-3 start this season under Tate, the head coach since 2000 and a member of the coaching staff since 1979.

Tate finished with a 49-26 record at McNeese, including three straight Southland Conference championships from 2001-03. In 2002, the Cowboys made it to the Division I-AA national championship game, losing to Western Kentucky.

Hebert refrained from saying the slow start was the reason for the change.

"I guess you can just say we had different philosophies," Hebert said.

On Saturday, the Cowboys lost 20-17 to South Dakota State. Their other losses were to I-A teams programs -- 41-10 at South Florida and 41-7 at Toledo -- but McNeese was outscored 55-0 in the fourth quarters of those games.

The lone victory this season was 76-0 over West Virginia Tech.

I have a feeling there was something else afoot here.

Shut up with the replace the coaching staff mid-season talk!

If the team looses to FIU or has another performance like this last weekend's then the coaching staff as sealed its own fate.

However, THE SEASON ISN'T OVER! WE CAN STILL WIN THE CONFERENCE.

If your ready to call it a year, then have the balls to say we should bench every senior. If this coaching staff is so bad that they shouldn't have another game, then why should we apply the same logic to the players.

Shut up. And watch the games.

Great argument, but you are completely wrong.

The real problem is that apparently nothing can seal this staff's fate, not even another shotout loss to a school we should beat.

I don't think the players are the problem so why bench them. We have seen what they can do with a game plan (SMU) so the discussion must lead to the coaching and what looks to be the lack of plan and needed adjustments.

If this coaching staff continues on this route, how many of these players will even bother returning next year?

Shut up.

You're right. We shouldn't apply that logic to the players.

Shut up.

The best part is picturing you turning red and flailing away at your keyboard like a crazy man.

Shut up.

and thank you for the greatest argument ever against midseason coaching changes. I don't think we should make changes until after the season either, but you sort of make me want to change my stance with your well-reasoned logic.

Breath, and say what you want to say. Calmly. We'll give you a mulligan.
