I'm sorry but beating 2 1-3 teams a 2-2 team and a 1-AA team should not get you ranked, votes maybe, but not ranked. Yeah they are 4-0 but there are teams not ranked that are 3-1 or even 2-2 because of playing better competition.

Wait, wait, wait. Hold everything they are in the Big East, of course that gets them in the top 25 what was I thinking. Same record against the same teams by a team in the Sun Belt, MAC, or WAC and they may have 10 votes.

Maybe we should nominate a Sunbelt team to try this experiment to prove/disprove your theory. Wait, first we would need a Sunbelt team to string 4 wins in a row. dry.gif

Had UNT, Troy, or FIU opened against the same 4 teams as Rutgers they would also be 4-0.

Sept. 2, 2006 at North Carolina

Sept. 9, 2006 Illinois

Sept. 16, 2006 Ohio

Sept. 23, 2006 Howard

I think that if we played the same schedule, we'd probably be 2-2, or maybe still just 1-3. Illinois and UNC are pretty lousy teams for their conferences, but they still play Big 10 and ACC ball. I don't think Troy or FIU would be much better.

But, even if any of the three pulled off the 4-0 start, it still wouldn't result in a top 25 ranking. Congrats to Rutgers on the hot start... but I think they're being graded on a curve.

Here's the rest of the 4-0 teams and the ranking in the AP poll

Big East

(1) Ohio State

(2) Auburn

(4) West Virginia

(5) Florida

(6) Michigan

(8) Louisville

(10) Georgia

(11) Va. Tech

(13) Iowa

(22) Boise St.

(23) Rutgers

(25) Missouri

other 4-0 teams and who they beat...

Big Ten:

Purdue- Indiana St, Miami (OH), Ball St, Minn.

ACC:

Wake Forest- Syracuse, Duke, UConn, Ole Miss

Big 12:

Texas A&M- The Citadel, La Lafayette, Army, La Tech

CUSA:

Houston- Rice, Tulane, Gram St, Oklahoma St

It can be argued that the programs in the top 25 shouldn't be there because a lot of them schedule cupcake opponents for the first 4 weeks anyway.

Out of the 4 not in the top 25 I think Wake Forest might have the biggest arguement.

Edit: it also has a little to do with where they start this season and finish last season.
