Mean Green Coaching: F

The Mean Green is a running team. There is no arguing that, but a team can't be one dimensional. Passing the ball 11 times isn't going to win a game, especially when you're averaging 0.9 yards per rush. Woody Wilson didn't look bad passing the ball either. He completed four of five passes before he was replaced by Daniel Meager. I understand wanting to get Meager some playing time but when you are down you don't take out the one guy who brings a spark to the offense.

Grades are pretty close to accurate. I would revise as below:

Offense F

Defense A-

Special Teams B

Coaching F-------------------------------

I have no problems with the defense from last week - Tulsa could have easily hung 50+ points on us if the defense didn't play as well as they did last Saturday.

Dickey's offense, and therefore Ramon's offense, is run based. Dickey has said it himself several times this year. You take the zone read offense (i.e. run JT up the middle), it is a simple scheme and does not require an exceptional OL. However, when you have one back and you constantly run the same plays it is no wonder the defense puts at least 8 guys in the box. No running back or OL will look good doing this over and over again.

What's the definition of crazy... Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

I think we saw in the SMU game that if they adjust their game time strategy we have a chance. No one we play will expect us to change our game plan during the actual game. I think the biggest problem with Dickey and Ramon is that they are not willing to do something different and devise a scheme that will use the best aspects of the talent we have, and we do have talent... Toss a cat in a swimming pool and he'll swim, but it won't look pretty.

We have to give some credit to the OL, they looked decent against SMU. Maybe not for the run, but it seemed like the pocket stayed open a lot longer than it did last year.
