In the past, I have been very critical of your play calling, specifically your seemingly steadfast disdain for taking chances with the passing game. It seemed that passing was never an option on first down and, on many occassions, second down.

When you opened the UT game with two passes, I noticed. They may not have been successful, but they kept the defense honest. Tonight's playcalling was the best I've seen from the Mean Green in quite some time...a good ratio of pass to run plays. Woody turned several of the pass plays into runs but those were exciting to watch. I can't even count the number of times I heard the PA announcer say, "Jamario Thomas, dropped for a loss." It wasn't until Woody gave SMU's defense something else to worry about that Jamario finally started breaking some nice runs.

I want to thank you for having more faith in the offense's ability to be multi-dimensional. I read a quote from you last week in which you second-guessed yourself for giving the team too much to think about, in the way of plays, prior to the Texas game. I think a more extensive playbook is exactly what this team needs and I hope that you have not decided to scale back the number of plays in your gameplan. Mistakes will made but we must strive to overcome those and practice perfection. Fresh playcalling is key, for when we do the same thing over and over we become too predictable and we have neither the size, nor the speed, to line up with anyone and tell them what play is coming.

I hope Woody Wilson has done enough to earn the starting QB job. I still like Matt Philipps' arm strength, but I can't justify him playing over Woody. Not only is Woody exciting and fun to watch, but he just flat out gets the job done. Until the O-line improves at both pass and run blocking, we'll have to rely on Woody's scrambling ability to move the chains.

I'm sure beating SMU was a personally satisfying and joyous occassion for you, RF and RV, but you've also made a lot of Mean Greeners very proud tonight!!

GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

Don't you know that "players win the game and coaches lose the game?" We won in spite of DD...

I kid .... Do I?

See you in Tulsa next week!

Not only is the defense back, but they did something that UTEP, TCU, and UAB could not. They controlled SMU's 2004 and 2005 Offensive MVP Bobby Chase!!! Not only did they take him out of the game, but they hit him so hard once that he fumbled the ball! Nothing says "I own you" like taking the ball from you... My son and I went over to the SMU locker room to see Bobby and Vinny Chase before their bus pulled out. There was a large number of fans over there, and most of them said "you guys have one hell of a quarterback", but the defense was mentioned once or twice also. Bobby told us he thought he was going to score once and he got caught from behind. That says loads!!!

Kudos again to Darrell Dickey and this Mean Green Football Team!!!

GMG!!!
