I was in the marching band at North Texas before any of our band members or their parents were even born. Maurice McAdow would NEVER, I mean NEVER would have let our marching band wear shorts at any football game, home or away.

Suppose, for a minute, because of the intense heat on the playing field last Saturday, that Coach Dickey would say to his football team, "Ok, guys, it's gonna be so friggin hot you can all wear shorts and caps instead of your regular uniforms and shoulder pads, knee pads, and you can wear flip-flops instead of your cleats. Let's be confortable. We might all die from a heat stroke. And by the way, your shorts don't need to match, and also by the way, if you see a UT player you want to root for and they score a touchdown, be sure to give t hem the hook-em horn sign.

Now, Debbie, have I made my point? GO! MEAN GREEN! GO! GREEN BRIGADE!!!!

Back in my day if it was hot we lit ourselves on fire cause it wasn't hot enough.

I think everyone is missing my point. I never said that the 3 members who rooted for UT was correct. In fact I said it was wrong. But every year someone complains about what the Green Brigade does or does not do but no one ever takes it up with the band director to change things. No wonder nothing has changed..... dry.gif

But I guess people on this board won't believe anything I say. But what do I know? I was only in the Green Brigade for 5 seasons working my ass off to put a good show on the field. I tried to help increase school spirit not only in the band but around campus. I guess that isn't good enough. The music wasn't right or we took our jackets to prevent overheating or we didn't have the formations or we didn't perform an exciting show. Nothing the band does is EVER good enough.

I think YOU are missing the point... No one is saying it's your fault. YOU are not THE BAND. YOU were a stand out in the band obviously if you did all that. We aren't questioning what you did for the band or the school or anything of the sort. If it's compliments you are fishing for (which I'm sure you're not) then you have done a spectacular job. We ask that there are more of you, and there is nothing you can change about that, unless you become the director.

And yes there are things the band does that are good enough, and there are things that aren't good enough. Unfortunately the way things work in this world the bad things get noticed the most. I think you are too close to the situation to offer an unbiased opinion. Your input is welcome since you are so close and familiar with the operations and such of these things. But, don't let that blind you to the obvious opportunities the band has shown in 1 game this season that they could improve on. Obviously the band can't please everyone, but if they could at least act like they want to be there and are proud to be there, we'll take it and not say a word. They might be proud to be there, but to an outsider looking in they sure as hell have a funny way of showing it, and there is nothing YOU (Debbie) can do about it, but influence a band director. So please don't get too offended or worked up over it. We know that you did a lot, and we aren't singling you out saying YOU didn't do enough. You were but 1 of 200-300.

Hey Debbie,

Don't be so hard on yourself. I am a new MG Fan and had a cool experience Saturday with the UNT band (Green Brigade). After the game ended, the UT band did their usual "Eyes of Texas" rendition then beat if for A/C. After they were gone, the Green Bridgade played at least two songs with the pom, pom girls cheering. The sound and quality was great as to be expected. What was really neat was the number of UT fans who were in the area and listening with smiles on their faces. They really appreciated that show of spirit and the quality of music! You guys are first class!!! Thanks for doing your part to support UNT!!!

I was in the NT Marching band 55,56 and 57. I played the BB flat tuba. Remember, we wore spats on our shoes. I wish the Green Brigade would play the fanfare we played and also return to playing the NT fight song the way we used to play it. Go! Mean Green!

I totally agree. I've never heard any other fanfare like that one. And I've watched a lot of HS and College bands perform. I was sad when it was not used any longer. Just another change (along with dumbing down the fight song) that was brought about by Dr. Winslow.
