DENTON (9/3/06) – North Texas’ Katy Prokof and Brittney Gregory has each been named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts in helping the Mean Green win the Sam Houston State Tournament.

The Mean Green (4-4) went 3-1 in the tournament, only dropping a four-game match Saturday evening to Louisiana Tech. They swept consecutive matches over Sam Houston State, Southern Mississippi and Radford.

Gregory led the team in kills in each of the victories and finished with 52 kills for the tournament. She also garnered a minimum .375 attack percentage in those matches. This is the second All-Tournament team she has been named to in as many weeks.

Prokof was the model of consistency throughout the weekend with double-digit kills in each match, and posting three double-doubles. An All-Sun Belt selection last year, Prokof finished with 48 kills and 48 digs in four matches.

North Texas will continue the season on Tuesday when they host TCU at 7 p.m. at the North Texas Volleyball Complex.

Losing the last game to La Tech kind of takes the glamor off, but still a much better start than last year. Does anyone know why the Romanian girl is not playing, she was susposed to be their big recruit?

The Romanian girl has torn her ACL and will have surgery at the end of the season. She is playing with a brace but has not seen action.

The team was very disappointed not to go 4-0 over the weekend and ran out of gas against La Tech.

This team has great potential but also has a lot of room for growth and improvement. The match vs. TCU tomorrow should be a good one!
