Patrick Pass doesn't have a roster spot. He is on the PUP meaning he doesn't take a roster spot until the 6th week of the season. In order to keep Cobbs someone else has to go i.e. Evans or they have to release someone at another position and keep a crapload of RBs.

Rookie Cobbs hangs tough

At North Texas, Cobbs quickly seized the opportunity to make a name for himself as a runner. He led the nation in both rushing (152.7 yards per game) and scoring (11.5 points per game) as a junior in 2003, but then misfortune befell him.

Pats' Cobbs makes a bid

With 243 all-purpose yards — he's padded his rushing totals with five receptions for 100 yards — Cobbs also leads the team. He's averaging 7.8 yards from scrimmage every time he touches the ball.

Granted, the bulk of Cobbs' work has been done against opponents' reserves, but the young man from the University of North Texas who was supposed to be just passing through New England in the spring has been the leading contributor to the Patriots' rushing game this summer.

----I will be surprised if Cobbs is not in uniform somewhere.... After TWO good showings he should be getting some attention of someone. Other teams hang around like buzzards waiting for other teams (especially good teams like NE) to make cuts of players they can use. If that doesn't happen he will make the practice squad I would think.... I still would not be shocked to hear that he or Faulk has been traded off somewhere. Patrick is 7 (seven) years younger and can be around a lot longer than Kevin.

---NE is in an interesting situation this year.... they are good (maybe not as good as in the past) but their schedule is very soft.... Jets, Buffalo, (both twice) also Green Bay, Detroit, Houston, and Tennesee...... none of those strike fear in the eyes of their opponents.... backups may get lots of playing time.

Exactly. PC can take the spot that Pass isn't. blink.gif

It sounded like you thought Pass was taking up a roster spot already (he hasn't since before the first preseason game). Cobbs is basically in a spot where the following people are:

Evans

Mills

Maroney

Dillon

Faulk

So basically you have 6 players competing for essentially 4 or 5 roster spots. Dillon, Maroney and Faulk aren't going to get released and Mills and Evans are considered at the FB spot with Mills also working at TE (where he played in college, remember him from our Tulsa game the guy is awesome). So out of Mills, Evans, and Cobbs who do you think the odd man or possibly 2 men will be? In order to get down to 53 this is who is competing for the last spot(s) at RB.

2 more great Cobbs artices:

How 'bout we start Barber, release Jones, and get Patrick a Silver Helmet with a blue star...

If the triplets, and Jimmy Johnson were still around, yes. Those were the years. But I would not wish the Jones, Parcells, and Owens Circus on any player, especially a good guy like Patrick Cobbs.

I drafted PC in my CBS Sportline fantasy league.

He was not even listed in the ESPN league. I will pick him up on waivers when he makes the final cut...where ever he goes.
