Former Hebron RB Robinson leaves Arizona

Derke Robinson, Hebron's leading rusher last season for its Class 4A state-championship team, has left the University of Arizona before playing one game in college.

Robinson originally committed to Texas, where his father, Ronnie, was a standout running back, but changed his mind before national signing day and ended up signing with the Wildcats.

Apparently he's looking to transfer to a college in Texas and has been looking at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches.

Seems like it would be a decent fit at NT. Sit out 1 year, J-Mo's Jr., and then be able to spell J-Mo during his senior year. After that its all him.

Robinson, a freshman who signed with Arizona but left school a couple of weeks ago, will not be able to play this season because of his status as a partial academic qualifier. Nevertheless, it's quite a catch for SFA to get a guy who was ranked as the state's No. 39 recruit last year.

"He's off and ready to go," said Ronnie Robinson, a former Texas running back who attributed his son's academic status to learning difficulties. "He's met challenges his whole life and overcome them. This is another opportunity."

No, it's not different at all. A player can transfer between D1 and below teams and play immediately, but obviously players have to sit out a year when transfering between D1 programs. UNT recently signed Rodrick Fleming from Oklahoma State, who was a top 50 national recruit coming out of high school.

Try to make some basketball games this year. They play an entertaining style of basketball and UNT needs it's fans to support and be aware of more than just football.

Diviion I basketball players can transfer to Division II or III and play without sitting out a year. There is no Division I-AA in basketball; they are Division I. Consequently, if Robinson had transferred from Arizona to SFA in basketball he would have had to sit for a year.

And, in response to Silver's comment, we have a recognized program for those suffering from dyslexia. Dyslexics see mirrored images making it hard for them to read, write, and spell. J. Thomas falls into this category and I believe that Woodward does as well. It has little or nothing to do with intelligence.

I don't know how deeply it extends into other learning problems but since we are a former "teachers college" I'd guess that teaching those with any form of learning disability would be one of our strengths.
