Did anyone else catch Kirk Herbstreet's comments about UNT on ESPN's college football preview show. I quote "Texas playing North Texas is worse than Texas scrimmaging themselves" Corso and May chuckled at us. I hope we keep UT under 60 and we at least get 7.

I saw that as well. It made me mad, but we've got to prove him wrong. It's been some time since we were even respectable to Texas in a game ('92). We've gotta do something on the field (they'll never mention that NO ONE was close to Texas last year except OSU and USC). All their games but those two were worse than scrimmages!

It shows how little respect media has for us in OOC games. Can you blame them based on our OOC record the past several years? The only way to change their perception is to win some of these "underdog" games. Until we take seriously games against other conferences we'll only be king of the kiddie pool, and now not even that. sad.gif

It shows how little respect media has for us in OOC games.  Can you blame them based on our OOC record the past several years?  The only way to change their perception is to win some of these "underdog" games.  Until we take seriously games against other conferences we'll only be king of the kiddie pool, and now not even that.  sad.gif

When was the last time, and i mean SERIOUSLY has UNT caused an upset in football.

The only one that comes to mind is the MUTS (5-0) UNT (0-5) game, and besides that one when was the last time we beat a BIG TEAM

Texas Tech... Twice in Lubbock. That was the last time, and that's been, what 6, 7 years ago now. Nothing recently.

Herbstreet can choke on a Big 10 watermelon. He is so biased to the BCS it is unreal. If it were up to him there would be 6 conf. and they would play the top 2 of each.

He is such an Ohio State , Big 10 homer! I would put no credibility into what he is saying. He is just playing up to the hype of UT/OSU in a couple of weeks.

Just remember UNT is up and coming and will in time get better every year. Hey we play the National Champs every year. Our guys always strap it on and I am damn proud of what they have accomplished year after year. (lets put last year behind us)!

well, OSU's defense is going to have a little work to do themselves in their opener. NIU has a pretty good offensive attack and Garrett Wolfe is a stud. Replacing the back 7 is never easy, no matter who you are, and replacing one of the best LB cores college football has seen in a long time wont be easy either.

      All the years we have run that system have not been fruitful, so we just keep doing the same thing? It's fine to take bits and pieces that work, but I would like to see someone outside of this coaching tree. I think it'd actually be a good thing to expand recruiting.

      3-3-5 is Great If…

      I wrote about our version of the 3-3-5 -- which is known either as 3-high, or 3-3-3. I think it has som e interesting things, and that we have improved. I think Texas Tech killed us and made everything we did wrong. https://www.meangreennation.com/publish/post/147907725 The best stuff we did was in the first two drives -- those ones where we still allowed 10-points and they ran with ease. Outside of that I think we were laughed off the field. The scheme can be good and our packaging/prep/personnel bad. Or some other combinations. Last year I thought we didn't have enough talent. This year we level up, but Caponi called a weird game and we were underprepared against a very talented offense with a very talented OC.

      Air Force Serious Target For AAC

      Best Scenario = UNT gets an invite to the PAC12 with Memphis, Tulane, and UTSA and makes the move. Second Best Scenario = UNT, Memphis, Tulane, and USF all stay in the American and Air Force joins to round out the military academies. Even if UTSA or TX State go to the PAC, this American configuration would be arguably on par with that PAC. Worst Case Scenario = UTSA, Rice, Memphis, and Tulane all go to the PAC12, and the American backfills with Air Force Academy and TX State. Things worst case scenario because the PAC will clearly be the “best of the rest” and the next media deal with the American will not be as lucrative.

      3-3-5 is Great If…

      The 3-3-5 should be a situational defense. Not a base defense. Need to be able to be multiple against offenses now. Again, problems arise when you don't have depth players who buy in. Missing on so many transfers that were supposed to help the back half of our defense really hurt us this past weekend, IMO. Whether from injury, legal issues, etc....we are undersized and too slow to play with a Big 12 offense.

      Oregon State AD: Pac-12 will look to add new schools quickly

      Several G5's are going to have to make some difficult choices on football in the coming years. UNT will be okay but schools like Tulsa, UTEP, Ark State, etc. could be forced to shut it down.
