Seems like Hall (most similar situation to Tune) was starting by the 3rd or 4th game of his Freshman season (that was a miserable campaign, btw--which is why I'm scared of a true fresh qb).  What's the precedent here?

The precendent is that we can't recruit really talented QB's( few noted exceptions). We have to depend on "walk on's". Tune is a good one and could have a future.

Most likely a lot more like last season than Andrew's season. And even then both of those guys had a year to learn as redshirts.

I hate to break up the love fest, but when a true freshman who played one season of QB at a 2A school and who was just now was given a scholarship is the popular new guy to lead the team, then we are in bad shape.

We went 2-9 last year, including 0-5 at home. Our QB play was putrid awful by all accounts.

I think it's COMMON KNOWLEDGE that we are in BAD SHAPE! To bring back an oldie, but a goodie, "We have the worst situation in the conference".

But hope springs eternal! We have a true FRESHMAN that's going to lead us to VICTORY!! Yippee!! wink.gif

Yeah, I was really worried a couple of years ago when we had to replace Kevin Galbreath with a runnign back who didn't receive any other offers on signing day. dry.gif

I am frightened to think about a true freshman starting in Austin, but hell what do we have to lose. Can't get much worse, the risk/reward is in our favor on this one.

SE-66, FFR mentioned weeks ago that Tune looked great in the HS all-star game, and he couldn't understand why Tune was not offered a "ship" by some D-1 school. After watching him yesterday morning, I tend to agree.

Ah, yes. Yes, it's good to be right for once. Congrats to Nathan. This situation reminds me a lot of that August camp in '00 when a DB from Shertz came in and got his chance to play a bit of QB. The very first day everyone was like, "Who the hell is that? He looks pretty damn good, I hope they give him more of a chance to play QB before they send him over to the defense!" A week later greenjoe asked the Buick at a function that "if a true freshman was the best he had at QB, would he start him?" and DD said "YES!". And the rest is history.

It will be interesting to see how Tune does after a year in our weight program and conditioning. If he works hard the future certainly looks bright for him.

No need to crap in our cheerios, illuvius!  I (and all my season ticket buddies) are just excited that someone other than Mayday or Wilson Phillips might give us some hope this year!  Who cares if he is a freshman if he moves the sticks?!

That's probably the first time someone has accused me of that particular infraction on this board. I've gotten plenty of pollyanna, but not a lot of spoiler. smile.gif

Anyway, you are exactly right. If he moves the sticks, he'll play. I'd like to see him consistently do that against the first team, though, before we can start talking about playing time, let alone a starting job.

As Bob Sturm said on the Ticket this week: the backup quarterback is always the most popular guy on the team.

Like FFR would say, you are comparing apples to oranges. dry.gif

When we lost all our conference games last season by a TD or less, I was getting kind of excited going into this season that improved QB play would give us an increase of at least 1 TD a game and give us a chance to fight for the conference title again. Now I'm pretty scared about the QB play this season.
